Probly 3k total for a 40b and 20 sump, I’m cheap af when I need to be lol sump / overflow where trades for my yellow tang that I got cheap due to disease (healed/ traded after Hawaii ban) petco gallon sale for tank all of my anemones cost 40$ max or where trades for my coral , only buy frags that cost 30$ or less dry rock from Amazon 30 lbs for 55$. The lights cost the most 4x$180 720$, I do have weekly costs of Water from lfs like 5$. Buy used equipment / corals from local reefers and be sure to pass on the savings is my advice

My 32 Gallon Biocube is 4 months old with only one fish and I have spent around $1100.
My 28g Nanocube is also 4 months old, and that’s almost exactly what I’ve spent on it so far.

Edit: But over the years I’m going to guess $30k, at least.

I’ve spent “every last cent we have” in my tank except for the money she’s hoarding in the bank or that she’s wasted on food, the kids “needs” and makeup to hide the wrinkles. I can’t say how much that adds up to, but an estimate of 2k x 30 years is probably good for a ball park. She spent that much buying her car, 4 times that send 1 kid to school, and 1/2 that bailing herself out of jail but I’m the bad guy?

I do love her so much but if you have to ask I’ll tell you I can’t afford it.

The price is inflated because of overnight shipping, there were 4 separate online orders for macro algae and for some phyto.

I suppose it'd be a cheap build if you could find the stuff locally.

The fish were the cheapest livestock because no overnight shipping.
Looks nice

After all these years .
its not about the dollars invested or spent .
there are at worse things I could spend money on .
it’s something that brings joy ,
Watching everything grow is the reward of reefing ...,,
