Filter sock around pump?

I have a Bunch of micro bubbles in my display i think its due to my sump my baffles dont seem to be doing there job. So my question is can i put a filter sock around my Eheim pump? My concern is that it would restrict the flow it brings in make the motor run harder and burn out.

It's generally not smart to restrict pump intake. You can throttle back the outflow, but restricting the input is damaging to the pump. It's worth noting that MagDrive pumps come with large foam blocks that go over the intake screen and they don't hurt pump operation. Consider putting some type of large-pore foam over the intake. As long as you rinse it out regularly, it should snag most of the bubbles. without becoming a little nitrate factory.

I had a pump once that somehow made a cyclone like vortex sporadically just enough to pull in a bit of air, I just added a 90 degree elbow facing down and it was perfect

Slow down the flow through your sump

Another cure is to stop the bubbles at the source. Where your overflow comes into the sump the bubbles are born from air entrained in the flow and from the overflow splashing to the bottom. If you go to WallyWorld and get one of the tall Rubbermaid Pasta containers, made for spaghetti it can fix the issue. Just drill 1/2 inch holes around the lower side of the container all the way around, run your overflow pipe to about 1/2 inch below the sump level, inside the pasta container and fill it with LR Rubble.
