I'm trying to find something which will take care of my bubble algae problem. I've tried emeralds, no luck. Is it a good idea to put a one-spot foxface or a scribbled rabbitfish in a 65 gallon tank? I'm only expecting this tank to be running for another three years or so at most due to life reasons, and I'm wondering if either of these fish would outgrow my system in that time frame.

Thanks!

If they are the only fish, and you feed them lightly (with lots of bubble algae) I wouldn't hesitate. But since this is a going tank, what other critters will the foxface be living with? I have found my foxfaces to be durable against bullies, sometimes they are shy, but they don't grow all that much the way I feed them in a reef, which is sparingly. Still, wondering what other fishes (how many fins in the pond) will be bumping shoulders with?

I have had my fox face lo for almost 3 years now and he is probably about 6”…. I got him small. I love him and vote yes!

One spot should be fine as long as your tank isn't crowded already. If you have more than 4 or 5 fish probably not

I voted - short period of time. Better still if you look for a one spot fox face for that size tank. They don't grow as big nor as fast. I had one in my 50g for about two or three years before having to sell her to someone with a larger tank. That said, it was the best algae eating fish I've had. Straight up ate long hair algae like spaghetti.

It'd be living with a royal gramma, two orange skunk clownfish, and maybe a few other small fish (<2") in the future which I haven't added yet. Nothing much, it's a lightly stocked tank. Nutrients are currently quite low, I've actually been trying to get them up.

How long is your tank. if it is at least 4' I will say yes for up to 2 years.
Mine is probably 8 years old now and about 8".
It was in a 4' tank for a year or so but has been in my 125G 6' long for a while. They do swim back and forth a lot, and mine is quite shy though it is the largest fish. I cannot keep any type of macro algae in that tank at all, as he eats it instantly. I grow my macro in a separate tank, and feed them to the fox face when I need to prune them.

Yeah, I would agree dimensions help… I said yes because mine started out in my 65 gallon but it was a 4’ long tank. He now resides in my 180

My fox is about 4 years and I’d say a similar size although maybe closer to 6.5-7”. I definitely agree with them being suitable for this tank although maybe only for a short term period.

I’d say 4’ would be the minimum tank to keep one long term as they don’t grow fast and also don’t get as big as people say.

It's a 3' tank, 20" deep. Would I be able to keep one in there for the three years I'm expecting that this tank will be set up, or will I need to take it out after a year or two? Thanks!

I’d say only you can really know when a fish will stress. It could be anywhere from 3-4 years to maybe even 1 month.

I have had a Fox in a 3’x2’x2’ tank and he was with me for a good 3-4 years as well.

Thanks! I'll probably end up trying to keep one. How often should I feed nori, and how much should I provide?

I would recommend the one spot rather than just foxface. Smaller and performs the same task.

I’d feed it once every few days personally (I need to feed my guy nori more often but instead I feed cubes of frozen veggies and varied algae).
As for how much I’d provide a decent amount personally.

They are hit and miss with bubble algae but doable in a 65 as I had one in a 50 cube and was a happy camper in there

I feed 1 LRS Nori or 2 julian Sprungs sheets to mine almost daily. It is gone everyday. Most of it is eaten by the foxface, but the hippo and the Eibli angel help him along.

I also feed a full sheet of Julian sprungs nori daily. But I have the fox, 2 tangs and a Midas blenny that go through it quickly. In addition to that I feed a cube of mysis or brine shrimp and a chunk of rods original daily
