Sometimes we buy a coral not thinking much of it, or it was a free coral included in a frag pack. To our knowledge, the coral we thought wouldn't be great ends up becoming one we love. Have you ever had a coral surpass your expectations?

Not a coral, but red bubble tip anemone. Bought 1, traded back at least a dozen in 2 years. And still have 6. Must like dirty water.

Yeah this Monti when I first bought it I was ticked its looked nothing like the picture. Still doesn't but after about six months it has started to throw some serious colors

Giant cup mushroom?

I used to help a buddy unpack coral imports and I usually ended up with a few broken terminal tips that were dislodged in shipping. I had a few of them that grew out into amazing colonies, but that was a long time ago and I don’t have any pictures handy.

Mostly Gorgonians. They grow like weeks. I have had some 15 year's or longer.







And of course leathers like these which you can't kill.

Probably my rbta or branching gsp. I was so surprised by the great coloration of them and the fast growth. I love them, probably one of my favorite things in the tank.

I've had to rehome two elegances that got too big for my tank, and a huge toadstool.

I need to go take a pic of the ruby red xenia now, and post it when it went in to the tank... Its outstanding.

I picked up a wilsoni coral about 7 or 8 months ago from a local FB auction that no one was bidding on. I then read about them being somewhat difficult with needing cooler water, slow growth and constant feedings. I fell in love with the blue/red/orange colors of it. It has been a super easy, hands off coral for me. It has doubled in size in the last 8 months. I do feed it some LPS pellets when I remember, but not all the time. It really has turned out to be a unique and beautiful piece in my tank.

If that nem is like my sunburst you’ll be throwing away splits of it in a few months they breed like rabbits
