In a situation like this, there was likely some stressor event that caused it. You probably had velvet in your system the entire time, but your fish's immune system was keeping it in check. Something may have happened to weaken their immune system allowing the velvet to thrive and show symptoms.

Agree on all fronts after the diagnosis of velvet. Act quickly, once it has the upper hand it kills within days, even hours.

Water changes are good for a lot of things ... but minimally effective against velvet.

It probably won't, but it's best to keep it at .5 ppm. You are right to do a small water change.

Careful with puffy. They don't like copper.

In a perfect world, you'd dose one med at a time - but sometimes the world's not so perfect. If a bacterial infection looks to be endangering the health of your fish, you'll have to use antibiotics.

Any suggestions on getting a puffer and panther Grouper to eat again after cupramine treatment. Haven't ate anything in a week after 14 day treatment. The puffer will spit it back out. I've tried 3 different frozen foods.
