Fingers too thick for a cellphone...
Mysis and reefroids are not enough IME. Feed it chunks of somthing. Mussels are the best. Do it at night so that wrasses will not steal it. Also they do appreciate significant flow and stability of alkalinity is a prerequisit. My phosphate run from near 0 to 0.15 and nitrates from 0 to 15 but it does not care. UV is also recomended. In my tank loss of elegance has always been associated with alkalinity instability. I now have two. This one is about a year old and became a giant:
I’ve heard about this disease. Can it just pop up out of no where?Yikes, worms possible but may have the typical elegance disease that can hit them
I’m going to go to my LFS and get that dip right now. Also it’s only the right side of it that’s receding.I have had mine a little over a year now and it is football size now. I treat these like a wall hammer. If they get a bacteria infection it spreads slowly through the skeletal structure until death. You can't frag off diseased head. Couple times I've noticed mine receding somewhat I gave it a ciprofloaxin bath and it is back very healthy again.
You have to order ciprofloaxin online. Lfs won't have it. Iodine dip may help too but I have not had great success with those.I’m going to go to my LFS and get that dip right now. Also it’s only the right side of it that’s receding.
The disease mentioned is one where elegance corals ARE prone to elegance coral syndrome (ECS). If your coral has this disease, you’ll see swelling around the oral disc and unopened polyps or a white mucus coatingI’ve heard about this disease. Can it just pop up out of no where?
Didn’t do any of that but I figured it out.The disease mentioned is one where elegance corals ARE prone to elegance coral syndrome (ECS). If your coral has this disease, you’ll see swelling around the oral disc and unopened polyps or a white mucus coating
Cypro wont do much for it especially if its melting as you described
Holy crap. At least you may have an answerSOLVED!!!! My mag was at 600 My dosing pump went out and I didn’t notice. Everything else I test and dose manually but got complacent with mag because it’s on the pump.
Wow! Glad you figured it out. Hope the Elegance improves now. Every time I open this thread I wish I could give you my Elegance. When I got it back in 2019, it was about 2" wide. Now it's about 11" diameter. That is a lot of real estate in a 40B. 40B are 36" x 18"SOLVED!!!! My mag was at 600 My dosing pump went out and I didn’t notice. Haha thank you. Mine was about the same when I got it (pic attached). I’ll happily take a frag of it . Also bought another about 4-5 days ago as a test subject.Wow! Glad you figured it out. I used Salifert Flatworm exit for this infestation. Worked well.On a related note what do I do about the flatworms on it? I think there might be an egg cluster in the exoskeleton of the old elegance. Leave them and let the arrow crab and damsel pick them off? or dip it with a product or freshwater?
