Help picking my final fish!

Hey guys!

So I have room for one final fish in my 32 gallon cube and I want it to be something a little different and special, but I don't know what. I thought I could use some help! I want something interesting and that would add a splash of color.

My tank has been running for 8 months now and is stocked with:

-pair or clowns
-orchid dottyback (not aggressive)
-golden sailfin blenny
-pair of yasha gobies

I would not recommend a mandarin for a 32g.

Janns or bluestripe pipefish, a Meiacanthus species of blenny are a couple of ideas.

I’ve already tried a pipefish (stinging corals and pipefish don’t mesh) and I have a blenny and I’ve heard not to add more than one blenny to a system :(

The blennies I mentioned occupy a different niche. Meiacanthus are in the water column and have a venomous bite and pike blennies stay on the sand. Both would be ignored by the sailfin.

Orchid dottybacks, while peaceful for a dottyback, may take issue with a gramma in a 32g tank.

Understand, although I had them in my Biocube with orchid being put in first and they basically ignored one another. As you know, some fish seem to have "personalities" and what you read may not always be what you experience.

I've had the 2 together in numerous occasions, usually it worked out, sometimes it didn't. Smaller tanks make it harder. The orchid being in first makes it harder. Not impossible, but less likely to work out.

Yep, along with hiding places, tank mates, size differences, etc. Wish Reef2Reef had a licensed "fish psychologist" to determine who likes who, ha ha.

My vote, if budget is a concern get one of the more traditional colors. But these guys have tons of personality and will be a peaceful tankmate. Gorgeous swimming action.

Yes, one of my favorites, altho I share eatbreakfast's concern about the orchids' aggression towards "peaceful" fish. Anyone have experience/thoughts about how a yellow assessor would fit in? Another colorful, interesting fish.

Yellow assessor would be cool. What about a Pink Streaked Wrasse?

Personally I am conserned about both the orchid and the blenny toward the assessor and I am wary of the orchid towards the pink streak wrasse in 32g.

Completely forgot about these guys!! The helfrichis are gorgeous and would probably be the way I went if I end up with a fire fish

I know you asked for a splash of color - but maybe the exact opposite might give you some contrast and act as even more of a "pop" - Why not consider a Banggai Cardinal?
