Hey Everyone iv seen some other threads going from it’s corline algea to its dying that you might need to cut off the head, to its regular algae so i figured i would post my pictures. And make my own post for some personal help. So I bought these from Manhatten Aquairums, the guy was really nice and they happen to be my first corals. I got them back in March after my tank cycled for 2 months! They are in a fluval evo 13.5. I had my LFS test to confirm tank cycled. Since than all the corals are doing well i have a Duncan, a hammer, candy cane, and an outer space Psammacora, which i hope kinda encrusts over some of the rock. I also have 2 clown fish, and 3 bubble bee snails. Everything in the tank seems to be doing great and happy, the Duncan’s starting to sprout another polyp. My water -parameters are as follows. temp 75-78f specific gravity 1.026 ( perfect :)) ammiona bounes between 0-.1 same with NO2. NO3 is between 5-8. Calcium 450, Alkinlinty 8.3-7.8, Maneisum 1400 steady , and PH is 7.9 to 8.1 mostly 8.
So when i bought it honestly at first i didnt see that, also i figured it was something like algae, maybe it had to heal from being fragged. Honestly I’m new and it didnt even hit my radar. I looked at other posts and they seemed to differ, many said it might be algae or needs to heal however one or two said to cut them off it ”could be disease” and to save the coral to cut that off. However I’m brand new and i think i would learn more seeing it through and how it affects the coral itself. So i dont want to cut it to save the other three polyps. However if its something that could affect my Duncan and hammer than i will. What are yalls option. I feed reef roids once a week-week and a half, and just some frozen Reef Frenzy once a day for the clowns. What do y’all think??

YOUR ISSUE MAY BE THOSE VERY BUMBLEE SNAILS BUT KEEP AN EYE ON THEM TO ASSURE THEY ARE.
Moderate light and water flow is favorable for these guys.
Temp 77-79
ph 8.1-8.3
salinity 1.025
nitrate < .4
phos < .04
Ammonia < .03
mG 1300
Alk 8-9

So the Bubble bee snails were put in almost a month after the candy cane coral, and the coral has been like that since i got it. Outside of that,.... would they harm coral i was told they wouldn’t? I only have 3 and i visually see them eat some of the frozen food so i doubt they are starving and desperate... any ideas outside the snails? And looks like my water parameters seem to be good acrdoing to yours, little high magnesium. But again iv got it and its been like that since iv got it for 2 months... so idk

Are the polyps extended/inflated during the day?
Yes, it took a few days but yes during the day now it puffs up nicely. And small ity bitty tentacles come out. More and more its puffy up for a longer time. So its at the bottom of my tank as you can see and the water flow is pretty low there prob lowest of the tank.

if hungry they may. They do harm other snails mainly but also good at going after vermetid snails.
Try slight reduction of white lighting and feed 2-3X per week

Other than the discoloration, is there anything else wrong?

I will def watch them, i make sure if there are any pieces of food left the fish dont eat i give them a piece Directly they seem to like that. Feed the fish 2-3 times a week instead of once daily?

Yes, they need time to take food in and convert it into building blocks

If that coral came with that discoloration, my suspicion is that that head broke off and someone used purple (or whatever color that is) putty to reattach it. If that's the case, and that head seems like it's doing OK, there's nothing to worry about. If it's not putty, I'd say it's coraline but hard to tell from the picture. Anyway, if the coral is doing OK, don't worry anymore about it and just enjoy

Wont my fish burn through what they eat... i only feed the tank reef roids once a week. And my clowns a little every day about half the size of a dime maybe. So feeding the tank less might help the candy cane heal up a bit ?

It did come with it and yes seems to be fine so far... if it doesn’t ill repost about it. And someone suggested i feed the tank less. while i get that it might take time to digest and make building blocks i dont see how feeding my fish is inhibititing that. However I’m a newbie and will give that a try. Do you believe 2 small baby clowns can survive on being fed a small bit twice a week? They seem super hungry every day. I know they will always eat and not to over feed them but at the moment i dont think i am, and my water parameters are ok.

Feeding less will keep nitrates down . Roids I like but i'd try something like Mysis shrimp .
Candy Cane corals get most of their nutrients from the lighting, through a symbiotic relationship with marine algae, known as zooxanthellae. That’s the primary source of food. However, if are well-fed candy canes will grow faster. A mix of meaty foods such as brine shrimp and as mentioned, Mysis are a great choice. Always target feed these corals to avoid fish (assuming you have) eating their food.

Yup thats what I’m doing.. I’m using Reef Frenzy which I believe is a pretty good mix of meaty foods. Should i target feed them when they are puffed up and engored with water or only when they have there tiny tentacles out

Personally, I don't target feed candy canes and just let them get supplemental food from whatever they pick up from broadcast feeding (where I include reef roids) a few times a week. I also dose Red Sea Reef Energy AB+ nightly for supplementation, but I have a big tank with lots of coral. As Vetteguy53081 said, canes get vast majority of what they need photosynthetically. They are pretty low maintenance

All the water paramatars are good Iv had the fish store test it past 3 weeks everything is stable. They suggested some microbactor 7 for some of the brown slime that seems to be on my rocks and sand. That was almost 2 weeks ago and its got much better, i think it was finishing the ugly stage, but not sure. Anyway any more thoughts on the redish algae looking stuff growing
