i got this acan a week ago doing well its currently mounted to a small rock its on the sand if i want it to grow should i lay the rock on a bigger piece of rock or just leave it on the sand as is

Bump.

It's purely a guess on my part, but I think it would do better sitting on a flat rock. But as I said, it's more guess than knowledge.
 
If it’s on the sand, it will grow but slower than if it can encrust and use I know as a start to a skeleton. I’ve see acans grow into balls if not placed on a rock. Just something to think about
 
They will do ok just about anywhere you place them however I would recommend mounting on a 2x2" frag tile for best results..

the acan pointed out by arrow is just sitting on sand, the cluster of four to the right are on a ceramic frag plate.. they where all started the same time as single head frags. The ones on island have done slightly better..
