How to get shimmer/shadow with led

When u say nutrients...are u referring to phosphates? And what alk level do u think is best?
 
Kessils give the best shimmer hands down..just make sure there is water agitation on the surface...you can have great SPS growth and color w them, just need a lot of them to compensate for the wattage
 
Surface agitation will be your cheapest solution. Kessil lights are magnificent as well but more surface agitation will provide a more natual look as well.
 
Any of the puck style LEDs (acting as a light point source) will create 'shimmer.' Non-point light sources, if high enough above the water, will do the same - I've created shimmer (called the 'caustic network' in scientific works) with NO fluorescent lamps. Of course, water surface agitation is a must. There was a study published years ago that showed pulsed light created by this phenomenon boosted rates of photosynthesis.
