Hey new reefer with a question about powerhead placement in my setup. I am adding some SPS to the top of my scape and I have a little Nero 3 powerhead. I’m thinking about moving it up to about 2/3 up on the overflow side to get some good indirect flow on the SPS corals. Is it a bad idea to mount a powerhead right underneath an overflow?

You'll probably have to play around with it a bit to find the ideal spot for you, but no - mounting it under the overflow isn't necessarily a bad spot.
I’ve been playing around with the flow a lot, a few inches below the overflow seems to make the most since since most of my lower flow stuff is on the other side. It’s either that or in the middle hitting the SPS corals direct on low flow. Do you think that is okay? I can turn that Nero 3 down alot but those SPS corals are going to be getting hit with direct flow about 5”-10” away from powerhead. That little mighty jet in there seems to provide plenty of flow for the other lower flow softies and LPS in the tank.

I would put it on the wall opposite the return.
I run it that way on my 18" 20g nano cube.
I run a jebao and run it on else mode and switch it up often to wave mode. Nothing gets a constant direct flow. It works great for sps.
Keep your return pointed at the surface.

Nice tank! Looks like your off to a great start.

Thanks! Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I will do that! I keep my return pointed at surface.
