What fish are you housing that jump? I took the screen top off permanently, I did not like it at all.
I'm hoping to keep a wrasse of some sort in the future. I've seen clowns jump as well so I'm not going to take the chance. I lost a Solar Fairy Wrasse and Fire Fish to jumping in the past. One goal with my new build is to reduce my mortality rate, so a top is pretty much a requirement for me.

Got ya. I had the top that the old style came with (non pro) and I found that it actually trapped a bit of heat in too. Taking it off definitely helped with cooling.

Update for anyone wondering about the new (not the ghost) IM DC skimmer - mine works like a champ. It’s unbelievably quite, supper easy to maintain, pulls amazing funk out, and overall seems well made. Other than the power cord, i don’t have many complaints. I know the old ones had micro bubble problems. I have not noticed any.

I'm running fishless for a while so I can go top less for now.

I got the Intank surface skimmer things and they are working well. It allowed me to raise the water height on my tank a bit. If anyone is looking to do that with a removable piece (no adhesive or anything needed so if you need to take it off later you can) this is a nice option.

It does make it so my screen top doesn't fit all the way down, but it can still cover the tank opening.

I bought these too-but didn't realize the top won't fit with the clip on. (bought them as same time as tank-before set-up). So now thinking I might just glue them in place so top would fit correctly-have jumpers. Good or bad idea?

Have you tried just setting them on without the clip? My JBJ Nanocube has one and it's held on by the water pressure of the overflow.

I don't think mine will stay that way-I just got the Icecap 1k gyre-it is so strong I'm struggling with keep at just 10%-20% power.

What is the most interesting fish anyone has/will put in their 30L? I think the frogfish is leading the pack so far.

I was considering doing a Fuzzy Dwarf Lion but that would limit my ability to do a cleaner shrimp. Could be worth it but feeding can be a pain much like the frogfish.

Yeah. I just kind of have mine sitting on top, but given that the other ones mentioned in this thread don't obstruct the cover, I may switch to them as they are only $15 for the pair.

What level is your water line at in display? I bought an IM 30L second hand but the water is only just trickling down the overflow. Is this normal or does it sound like I need a new return pump?

Here’s my 30L, first tank and going good. Was that busy setting stuff up as a newbie forgot to start a build thread. Suppose I could do a retrospective one?

Anyway with 3 kids, a wife and 2 dogs it’s a slow build as I can only spend when I have permission [emoji36].

Luckily cellar is below the lounge so I’m building a little area in the room below that has built in auto fill RODI tank for auto top off.

What are your levels in your chambers? Are you still getting a good flow through the chambers? What is your water level in your return chamber. If it's really low you could see about adding some water and seeing if that does anything.

If your return chamber level is already pretty high then it might be your return pump. Maybe try cleaning it first to see if it's output is being restricted from buildup or obstruction.

Welcome! Retrospective build threads are still great. It's a great way to show others what you've done as well as letting you document what you've done. Going slow is not the worst thing. I know there's been plenty of times where I should have gone slower. [emoji28]

I've just gotta say +1 for the icecap 1k gyre pump. In my tank I have it mounted on the side panel at the top of the tank and my tank can handle it (with a sand bottom) at 100% (though I don't keep it there because it's A LOT of water movement.) After some positioning and tweaking it doesn't stir up any sand even at full 100%. It definitely is keeping detritus suspended in the water column though and has been blowing loose crud off of my rock surfaces.

I've got it set on ramp up more going all the way up to 100% in four second intervals during the daytime hours and a calm 30% pulse mode at night.

I bought the Aqamai KPS powerhead. Looks to have good GPH flow rates and the compact size made it ideal to me.

Here is a pic of it.

I also just picked up the Aqamai KPS. I have the LRM light from Aqamai so it uses the same interface. Super small and powerful enough. Completely silent too. Can't comment on longevity yet though. I do like the mounting system its very clever.

I was thinking that too! They do hold on with the water pressure at the overflow but fall off alot when opening the cover. So the others for $15 might be the ticket!

Could someone help me figure out how to adjust my new IM Midsize skimmer (I've never had one before). This morning it was slightly bubbling out the top holes so I moved the cup up but its not skimming. Got it on Tuesday. See pics of where the level is now.

How highs the water in the back chamber, it doesn’t come above the baffle does it? My ghost skimmer did this the first time I set it up until I realised my water level in the back was too high. I have a 1” drop now going in to the centre chamber.

Also just realised the skimmer needs a clean [emoji17]

Thanks. I just picked really small chunks of rock that were all kind of proportional to each other knowing that there was limited space to work with. Kind of like a scale model diorama or something where since everything is to scale with everything else, it can look bigger than it really is. [emoji4]
