I really think UV could be a good extra layer of protection as a management (<--key word) tool. I plan to try a large oversized one in the near future. However, under absolutely no circumstances ever on the planet would I state that it is a tool to eliminate parasites--or to circumvent a thorough quarantine process. I will continue to QT.

PS: have adopted the "Hot4RocksFordFamily" protocol and it is wonderful thus far :)

I may try QT sometime in the future, but for now, i am perfectly fie with spending over $20 a month for electricity for my UV.
It isn’t cheap... uggghh.

Whoa, the UV by itself increases it that much?? That's crazy. But hey, I have other insurance policies that are more expensive than that :p

I’m pretty sure it is about $16 a month, running 24 hours a day, every day.

Please guys,

Today a lost another fish and here’s an update on my scopas Tang.

Fish seem to be stop eating. They are going after the food anymore.

I’m starting to feel hopeless honestly.

The pealing skin looks like brook to me. I am pretty sure I see ich and perhaps velvet. Unfortunately with all of this infections are likely and even may be present now.

Gosh spectrogram, metroplex, and copper may be needed here.

How long have the fish been in metro?

Only thing I know to do here is add Kanaplex + Metroplex + Furan-2 to the copper. Covers Brook and anything bacterial.

You can see the peeling white stuff. Started metro yesterday.

Will do that right now.

One question. Is always that hard to QT a fish?

Because I’m not gonna lie. I’m feeling overwhelmed.

No, absolutely not. But it is hard sometimes. For all of us. Know that as hard as it may be, you are completely doing the right thing. Imagine if this were going on in your DT right now instead! Hang in there :)

I'm sorry to see this. :(

It's not easy. It is much easier to do them in small batches when you first get them than trying to rescue ones that got sick in a DT. Even then, success isn't guaranteed.

What you are going through isn't uncommon, but it is why some of us are so protective about what goes into our DT's. It isn't uncommon to have ich, velvet and brook in the same system but held in check by the immune system of a fish. When something happens to just one fish, it can create the opening for these parasites to thrive. Then, instead of treating a few new fish in a QT that likely don't many visible symptoms you end up treating a tank full of visibly sick fish with multiple issues.

I wont lie, we all have higher fish loses in QT than we would like. When your issue came up, I had 7 anthias in my QT system. I feel I did everything right, and had all the meds on hand that I needed ready to go. I still only got 5 through QT and lost another one during the transfer. What makes it worth it is not worrying about the common parasites being in the DT. The pain and challenge on the front end makes the back end more rewarding.

Right, agree. But Spectogram is basically furan 2 and kanaplex right?

If you do it before trouble, generally no.

But certainly sometimes it can be very difficult.

The two are essentially the same. Spectrogram does seem to be more effective.
It's harder to get a hold of, so your point about kanaplex and furan 2 is a good one!

Good Morning guys,

Today’s update...

Scopas is doing worse. The fins are really bad and today my clown was completely covered in this white coat.

Already ordered Furan but is arriving only on Thursday

That is definitely Brook on the clown.

Have you already added the Metroplex?

I know you may have mentioned this previously. The thread is just getting lengthy.

Already added kana and metro. I also have furan in the way.
