I happened to be in LA this week with the family. Stopped by AmongTheReef.com warehouse to pickup some AMAZING Australian Live rock!! @Eric Cohen was great on helping me out over the phone and accommodating me. I met Kyler & Nayt who helped me pick through all the rock...these 2 guys were AMAZING they had no problem helping me out, answering all my questions in the limited time that I had with them as I had to go.
There was a good amount of Australian live rock in so many sizes, so healthy, lots of Coralline, smelled like the fresh ocean and beautiful. Attached are some pics. Will update once I get them back to Northern California and in my new tank. CAN'T WAIT!!

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR LIVE ROCK LOOK NO FURTHER....GET IT BEFORE THEY ARE OUT!

Thank you again Eric, Kyler, & Nayt appreciate everything!

For sure....beautiful stuff. Wish I could afford to get more but also have some Fiji rock to go in back.

That is pure skip cycle live rock. Don’t ever contaminate that with bottle bac, don’t ever insult it with an ammonia test from any kit, or someone will be very mad from behind a keyboard very far away. You need to instant reef with that _______ just to rub the establishment raw, and rub it in good.

it doesn’t mini cycle

it doesn’t maxi cycle

it is skip cycle Lamborghini rock you need to man drive that in the fast lane.

You know, I'm not sure "let's make everybody mad" is the best approach to getting people to listen to you. It's a good way to get a knee-jerk defensive reaction, no matter how good your science is.

But yeah, give that a few days just in case anything on it is dying off, and that's a cycled tank right there. I'm pretty sure people generally agree with the idea that ocean live rock, once any die-off is complete, means an auto-cycled tank.

Keep us updated on what pops out of it! I got some Australian rock a bit ago from Unique Corals, and so far I've found one dead crab and two live ones, some brittle stars, all sorts of worms, and a teeny-tiny sea cucumber, not to mention multiple species of macroalgae. And if you're really lucky, you might get some corals.

That’s just to bait you Tired, remove hook from lip

he can tell we like the live rock. About 50% of folks buying that rock get roped into also buying more bacteria, I thought we should squelch any chance of that here. I’m also trying to get folks to do more skip cycles so I can log them/self benefit was in the recommend too

So are we saying no cycle at all with this live rock and the Fiji live that I have? I was going to drop a raw shrimp in there to help it cycle...is that not needed?

A raw shrimp, ammonia drops, etc, are used when there is no source of ammonia. You have plenty of organics on the rock.

Yep. Just keep an eye on your ammonia level. Whenever the die-off is done, you're ready to stock. Don't spike the ammonia with a dead shrimp- it'll potentially harm the life on the rock.

Ideally, do water changes if there's more than a tiny bit of ammonia. There's no need to worry about whether you have enough bacteria- you definitely have enough. Your priority right now should be preserving all the non-bacterial life on it.

Personally, I would wait a few weeks to a month, checking frequently at night with a red light. Make sure there isn't anything on that rock you want to take out, crabs or eunicids or whatnot. But technically, as soon as you stop seeing ammonia, you're good to start stocking.

(Oh, and I don't think that developing a reputation for baiting people is a particularly good way to get people to listen either. Plain facts are a better bet.)

I’m seeing sponge survivors which is pretty amazing. I wrap this extra good with wet shop towels and then pack in a plastic bag too.
