I like the way the Kessil looks (spotlight) and the light spread looks great too but I have only seen them online in videos operating and not in person. Can anybody who's running them chime in with some input on them? How do you like them opposed to MH and T5? How are the colors on your corals? Are you you getting growth? (particularly acropora sp.)

Thanks In Advance

I have one over a 29g bio-cube. So far the corals seem to love the new light. The shimmer effect is insane. I'm running the 15k ocean blue and the colors are amazing. Haven't tried any sps yet. Might put a couple frags in there today.

Does the 15k look very blue? More like 20k? Thanks!

Yes its very blue. I'm ordering a 10k to see what that looks like. If your looking for the actinic look then the 15k would be perfect.

the 15k is what I was thinking about as well, I have acros in a 24 gal so I think it should do the trick if I spotlight them

I just got one a few days ago, awesome unit, it has an internal fan, that you can only hear when you put your ear right up beside it. It is more blue than expected, but really nice espeically for the price. I don't think it would be enough for sps either, im running this LED with a 250 MH. But my tank has a big footprint 46 x 35, so some areas are not covered by the MH, so im gonna have a few test sps, and see how they do in the LED only areas. Keep you guys posted if interested. In the end i think it is a great buy.

sorry for the late response or less than detailed post. I was typing on my phone. I sell these Kessils and have them on 2 tanks 28G Nanocube and a 2x2x1 Frag tank area. Currently I've been testing the Nano with just Acans, Chalice, SPS- Leng Sy Cap and Zoas. The best results so far is Zoas/Palys they are open and liking the shimmer, For Acans They seem to be stretching for more light. *No Aquascaping/rock work...everything is on my bottom sand bed* I would place the acans about 6 to 8 inches above sand bed and they should be fine. For chalice I just have a couple of Enchino types and they are holding color. The Leng Sy Frag browned out and definately needs more lighting...I haven't moved it up, but I would place them 4-6 inches from the top but there is no garauntee.

My 2x2x1 Area in my frag tank is all LPS including Frogspawns, torches, lobos, favias they all seem to do well, as far as growth it is definately noticeable on both tanks...*not much* The colors pop for sure, but if you are looking for growth I would look into a different light. Rephrase that my zoas and palys seem to get average growth.

The 15k has more of a 20k look...with a ton more shimmer. I would recommend single units up to the 28G size 18" height is probably the max for these units as far as penetration. Remember these are only 32W Cannon style. For a 40B I would run 2 of these and IMO 18x18x18 inches would be the max coverage for these.

How much are the lights ( 15 K ) and do they make the colors pop like blue LED strips?? Thoughts on them as a suplement to MH's amd T5's??

perhaps on the sandbed yes but have you test the par or seen the numbers posted?
the only numbers i have seen is on a 28 bio/nano cube are:

2" from light was 2100
surface was 450
mid-tank 120
sand bed 70
now i dont kow if he used the right meter calibration or not or how high the light was mounted

I have a 15k running on my cycling tank now and the coverage is wider then expected, about 6 inches from the tank def clears 24L, 18D, 24W and with no DARK AREAS!!! Great looking light, but haven't put any corals in their yet.

Pretty much the same tank as I have, its mounted with its gooseneck attachment and about 2.5 inches from the surface of the water, so its mounted close. I haven't measured PAR/LUX yet, I'll bre ordering a meter soon. Honestly those numbers seem a bit high IMO. I bet it could have been measured directly from the center which would be inline with the Light which would make sense. Now I bet the par readings would change dramatically if he measured them from corner to corner and not directly centered with the light.

2x2 ft is stretching it. You could literally see the "Umbrella" over the frag tank and see where it actually barely covers that radius and have shadow spots, I also have most of my flow on the surface for maxium turbulence which causes insane shimmer effect. I still stand by what I say regarding coverage of 18x18x18 inches or 1.5x1.5x1.5 ft. per fixture. I do notice another positive with the Kessils compared to MH/T5s, I have to clean my glass/acrylic LESS...doesn't produce much Algae "film" build up on them. Due to the fact of the "umbrella" effect that the spread doesn't really touch the "Walls" or if they do its more half to bottom of the nano. Again I have mine about 2.5 inch from the water surface. I notice most of you have them about 10+ inches over the water surface for a wider coverage, but you lose the intensity and PAR.

Once you add your corals, you'll see what I mean by stretching for the light...unless they are directly in the center and in line with the fixture.

Without a doubt its measured in the center. Also it bears mentioning that even the newest par meters don't read the bluer less properly anyway. I also don't buy the 2x2 coverage heck even AI don't cover that well
