Kessil Problems Help

So i have mapped out my PAR in my values are good. But i think my ramp up and ramp down periods are messed up and i cant figure out if I'm giving my corals too much light or too little light. i never used a light controller before so im just used to having the light turn on and off at a set time and keeping the intensity tuned in manually i have a kessil by the way. This is my current light schedule my Par was also mapped out during the middle of the schedule during the most intense period of the day.

if my lighting schedule on the left is not a favorable one and the one on the right is should i just change it all over or do it gradually? I don't know how long i should have the intensity I've mapped my par out for and placed my corals for if that makes sense. Im using the spectral kessil controller im using a old kessil so i cant edit blues whites or any specific colors. Im experiencing a little bit of issues with corals ive got my flow dialed in my parameters aswell i might send off an ICP test to see if any magnets are leaching into the water. This lighting schedule is one of the only things i haven't ruled out yet. seems that everyone is too worried about acquiring hospitality awards and over priced tenuis to even look at my thread so i have to make a duplicate post to try and get some insight.

I would love to help you out, but unfortnately I don't own a Kessil - so I'd really be guessing at the light schedule. If the PAR and flow is where you want it to be, I'd look at your water parameters.

The Kessil programming was way over my head so I just use their preset schedule. So far, so good.

I’ll stop from looking at over priced tenuis for a minute and answer your question.

More than likely unless you have been constantly messing with your lights it’s not the issue.

1. Find the color mix you like with the mix percentages.
2. Once you find the color mix adjust the intensity until you get the peak PAR you want
3. Go to the standard Kessil program and edit the peak points with the spectrum and the intensity you wrote down
4. Edit each point using the percentage difference in the program.

Edit: I see you are using the older one. Find the peak PAR percentage and color setting you like and use the base Kessil program setting the peak and change percentages from there. Give your tank 8 hours of light, you can push it more with lower percentages over 12 hours for example. I have no idea what kind of coral you are trying to keep

I appreciate it LOL but lemme start of with this look at what I wrote on your pc not a phone just in case because on the phone you won’t be able to see the side by side. But I only got some Zoas a few hammers and a couple Lords nothing crazy. As you can see from the original post I wrote up. I would follow the ramp schedule from Kessil. I have used Kessils over my frag tank until recently and followed the same logic I provided and had no issue with lighting.

I just use Kessil's quick set program and mod it a little. You should have 6-8hrs peak time and ramp on either side to your liking. What light are you using 360x? I've shared my schedule here several times, so you might be able to do an advanced search and find it somewhere? I'll see if I can dig it up. Intensity will obviously be different depending on your corals, but the overall schedule would be the same. Observation is key here and knowing what to look for helps as well. It's better to start with a lower intensity and slowly ramp it up over time. Corals can survive a lot longer in low light conditions than too much.

My par is perfect as explained previously it’s the amount of peak intensity my tank is getting which is worrying me

You mean the length of peak intensity? This makes no sense.

If you are concerned lower your PAR. You can do longer periods of lower PAR or shorter of higher.

My SPS tank starts at 200 PAR and ramps to 450 over 3.5 hours and comes back down. The remaining time is ramping from blues

If you don't think you have a long enough period, then simply add 15 minutes each week until you're satisfied. Observe your corals as you go. Like I mentioned earlier, I like 6-8hrs peak, but this all depends on what you're keeping and what your goals are?

I added 30 minutes to it im gonna let it go for a week then add another 30 minutes hopefully they like it.

Agree. 6 or so hours of good PAR readings and you are good to go. Increase photoperiod slowly and observe.
