Large Nodule

Hello all. I ordered a CB Goldflake angelfish and my wife sent me pics and videos of this tiny striped fish. It was a golden dwarf angel smaller than a quarter. I let the vendor know, they crapped their pants and sent a goldflake. Outstanding of them!

So, I've had them in QT for about 2 weeks. Full copper for 11 and they've been through GC and Metro regiment. This little fellow is shy to where I can't turn the aquarium light on and get him out of any pvc. I use the basement lights only. He eats the tiny pellets the vendor fed like a champ.


I go to feed them tonight and see this nodule behind it's left gill above the fin. It's very difficult to get good pictures because it jets in a heartbeat if the light comes on. I took some front facing pics to show the bump and got him in the collinder to show the whitish spot.

Please post a video of at least 20 seconds under bright white light intensity- no blue please. Additionally is fish breathing normal or labored.
Are you using cupramine or coppersafe and at what treatment level?

Video link in original post. It is in coppersafe at 2.33 with Hanna. Was breathing great until I put the spot light on then got a little stress but nothing major. The white area on the pictures is where the big bump is. I showed the side picture for reference.

I didn't know if it hit a piece of pvc from getting startled by the GF today maybe. Not sure.

Tough to see clearly - are the scales raised at the bump?

Not at all. Looks more like a knot when your hit you head except the middle is a little whitish color. It's really difficult to see because he is so small. Under an inch

O.K., I just wanted to rule out uronema.

I can't say for certain what this is though, other than it's an abscess of some sort. Bath treatments won't work for this because the fish's skin blocks the ability for the medication to get inside the fish.

So pretty much just a wait it out situation. It popped up overnight. It's breathing and swimming fine tonight.

It looks like someone popped a tiny pea under it's skin overnight.

In theory, medicated foods could get to an abscess better than medications in the water would, but dosing medicated foods is very difficult to do correctly:
