Did you post this on a different forum back in the day. This sounds very familiar...no pictures, but years ago i used a pump inside my 125 tank overflow, up to a buck on a hinge and a toilet plunger that would flush once the water level got to a certain level, giving a big wave effect in the tank - took it down after the flush didnt work and made a big puddle - ooops
the effect on the tank was cool tho

You can do same without any moving parts that could fail.
