To make a long story short:
I'm planning a slight upgrade from my current tank. I will double the footprint from 30x20" to 40x30". Height will be on the low side at 17".
I currently light my tank with the ATI Powermodule Hybrid 4x24w + 1x75w LED, and I'm pleased with it so why change "a winning concept".
However, there's no way one 24" lamp will cover the new tank, especially not since I'm planning to continue with an SPS dominant tank.
So: basically I'm considering (3) different alternatives, and could use some input:
1. Keep the current light and add another of the same, placing them next to each other with a slight gap, short ends towards the front of the tank. (Coverage issues? Maybe bulb-blending issues?)
2. Buy a used 6x39w + 2x75w LED powermodule for a pretty decent price, and sell my current one.
(The most financially sound option) but will it cover the width of the tank? (Lamp is about 16.5" wide)
3. Buy an 8x39w + 2x75w LED powermodule (new) and sell my current one. This and option 1. will probably end up about the same financially. This would of course cover the tank the "best". (20.5" wide) The "downside" of this and option 2. is that the fairly thick cord would "spoil" looks by coming out the side instead of straight back.
All would be hung at about 12" above the water surface.
Which one would you choose and why? :)
