I’m getting a new to me 6 ft 150 gallon setup. It is currently setup as a softie tank with three AI Hydra 26 HD lights. I’m planning on setting up a mixed reef and based on my reading this won’t be enough light for a 6 ft tank.

I’m looking for recommendations for upgrades or alternatives to the Hydra 26s. I’ve considered 2xAI Hydra 36HDs, t5s, black box, and others but would like suggestions.

Keep the 26s and add two more 32s. The final piece is some T5 and you’ll be covered. I have 2 hydra 32 and 2 Coralife T5 fixtures over my 26 inch deep 65 gallon and the 32s are at about 50%.

Hope that gives you an idea or two. At one point I had all three generations of AI Prime over this tank before I upgraded to the 32s, which I did one at a time. I’m getting ready to upgrade the tank to a 150 gallon tall tank and I’m going to add the Primes back and get 48 inch T5s.

personally i'd probably start off with the hydras you're currently running with either supplemental led's like reefbrite strips or even T5.
unless you're planning on dropping big cash on specific lighting i'd focus on using what you have and/or hunting the used market. good luck!
