Lighting overkill?

On a SPS dominant would a 8X80 60’’ATI Sunpower be too much for a 60X18X18

Trying to decide if I go with a 8X54 48 or 6 or 8 bulb on the 60 inch.

No, not too much at all.
Go 8 bulb fixture, 60" long.
It's 17.5 inches and will be perfect!

I have a 7 foot tank and only a 6 foot light. I thought that it would be Ok, but I hated it and ended up buying more fixtures just to light the ends. I would definitely recommend getting a 60" fixture for your 60" tank.

No, 8 bulbs is not too much.

Went ahead and made the purchase.

If it ends up being too much I can remove bulbs or possibly figure out a way to get my Kessils A360s in there.

Looks like it was a good choice then.

Read some post about the shorter fixture working but for a bit more it made sense to get the appropriate sized light for the tank.

A coral placed on the ends will have light coming from above and the inside of the tank. The do not get light from the other side, like corals more in the middle do. Ends are already lower lit, which is fine since you can just plan ahead and put lower-light stuff there. Leaving 6" on the ends just did nothing for my acropora and not even lower light stuff like some of the deep waters would grow well at all.

LOL! Forget the Kessils already. You'll get the light of your coral's dreams with the 8 bulb fixture! Use all 8 bulbs and watch them grow colorful and healthy!!!
