Hey everyone, I have some questions. I have a 55 gallon aqueon tank and it hasn’t been drilled or anything. I have a 30 gallon sump (I think, might be a little more) to plumb to the tank. My questions specifically regarding the tank would be, should I just sell it and find a better option? I plan to build a new stand with easier access to the sump and stuff later. I am moving across country and am trying to lighten the load but want to keep the things I already have. Also, with the lighting, I have bought a light in the past but learned that the plastic rim gets in the way and I have no desire to cut it and ruin the structural integrity or anything. So with the lighting, should I stick with the tank I already have and make some adjustments to the plan that way or buy a better tank that the lights will look more flush on? I have a somewhat tight budget with that kind of thing and I have time so any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Also, what lights would you recommend? I know that’s where it gets a little crazy, I’ve seen some great reviews on NICREW lights and with Black Friday next week. I wouldn’t mind buying them. Thanks!

Your moving . Sell every thing. Buy new shiny stuff. It cost more to move most things than it is to sell and buy new.

Since you are moving, id get rid of the aqueon and find something better - rimless possibly. You can find affordable rimless or AIO setup and lights on FB market. AI 26hd or prime 16hd should be very affordable now, but watch out for their condition - burnt lens.

TBH an AIO sounds like a good fit for you. they're usually around 40-50 gal range and can be a great reef tank.

Good luck.

I currently have a 13.5 gallon AIO and I am so stressed about taking it lol. A pair of clowns, goby and pistol shrimp with some snails, and a GSP starting to explode everywhere with some pulsing Xenia too. So I’m nervous about taking that… don’t wanna sell it either

Ya screw that! I’m moving across country… 24 hour drive. Thankfully I’ve build a nice client/owner friendship with a LFS. He said to stop in before we leave and he will teach me everything I need. He said he would hold onto the fish for me for about a week. Just gonna have a difficult time not killing the bacteria on my rocks and everything… so I have no idea what to do haha

that is a long journey my friend. going to be hard keeping everything alive - its doable. You will need to keep everything at 78 degrees plus an aerator. also, you will have to find a bin that will hold everything nice and secured.

TBH , sell your live stocks to your lfs and start over bud.
enjoy your move and a nice drive to your new home w/out stress.

You will be much happier to get rid of the 55 and get the 60 breeder. It is just a much better footprint.
