Got back from 10 days away on vacation. I had a friend come by a few times to top off the tank and feed everything. At some point during the week, the return pump failed.

I lost all of my SPS, fish, and clams, and I am waiting to let the tank circulate and clean before I am able to determine whether anything survived... the water is pretty cloudy. I lost much of my Z and P collection, some polyps are just closed though, so I am hoping I am able to salvage something.

Lesson learned.... though I am not sure if would have made a difference, is if you have someone come by to take care of your tank, make sure it is someone that has a tank and knows what to do if something like this happens. I am just devastated...

i'm sorry to hear that, i probably wont be the first to say this but you should look into getting a controller. A good example is last night my temperature dropped below 76 degrees at 3am and i got a text message, an email and my apex was sounding an alarm to let me know. i woke up and closed the windows in my room and everything was good. i hope you're able to salvage your tank.

Dang man, sorry to hear that. Worst vacation nightmare. I worry about not being able to relax on vaca because of this. Seems like this only happens when you are on vacation.

sorry to hear about your losses stray. you had such a beautiful collection. i hope most of the z&ps survive.

Sorry to hear. :squigglemouth: Been through a couple tank crashes over the years and it's always a heartbreaker. When you're back up and running, let me know and ill send a sps frag pack you way if you cover shipping. Hopefully some of the Zs&Ps can be salvaged.

Wow Jared, very sorry to hear about this. Its never nice to loss a whole tank. Anything I can do to help out, let me know.

I'm sorry to hear that! The person that comes to my house to feed and top off water thought they were freshwater fish from the pond ;) hahaha might need to get someone new lol

Sorry to hear about your loss...
In my opinion you should get some Apex controller then you can fully control your aquarium with smartphone from any place and even reprogram modules, it gonna warning you if something happen with any item plugged into powerbar then with your directions even unexperienced friend can dissolve most issues.

Regards,
mark

Sorry to hear....

Dude you know I would have checked on it, heck I drove past your house like twice this week just out and about for work.
Let me know when You are up and running again and you can stop by and pick some frags out. I don't have a ton, but your welcome to frags of anything I have. Also any other help you need, just ask.

I know Paul, I thought about calling you, but this guy was coming over anyway to put the mail in the house and water the grass. It was nothing he did or didn't do, just didn't know how to fix the problem... or that there was even a problem. To be honest, I have thought about downsizing to a smaller tank since I don't have time to maintain a large tank anymore, but this certainly wasn't the way I wanted to downsize. I will give you a shout soon man, I need to know where to go from here...

It seems like every now and than someone takes a devastateing loss. I am very sorry to hear about your recent mishap it happened to me a few months back lost over 1000 worth of corals mostly my scolys and acans and a friend I knew lost a lot also due to a poweroutage and the person he left responseable not knowing about reef tanks. Hope you were able to salvage something GL
