mangroves

i placed one in my tank a few months ago, it doesnt seem to be growing and i just bought another today.. can they survive underwater, or do the tops have to come out of the water to breathe air?

I have always had them sticking out of the water with good results.

give it some light and make sure the leaves are out of the water. if you want it to have a nice root structure, find a way to place it with just the tips of the roots touching the water. from there they would look for the substrate until they reach it.

When mangroves drop from the trees here in Hawaii, 80% of the time they end up fully submerged.
