MarvinsReef Zoanthid Dominated Reef...

How do you keep your sand bed so clean?
not sure.. ;)

the only clean up crew that stirs up the sand are Large Nassarius snails... my wrasses like to pick on food on the sand bed when they see some and they normally gobble up a bunch sand and they spit out clean... :hammer:

Hey Marvin,

What do you keep your calcium, alk, and mag at? Any problems with keeping your lps with your zoas? I'm trying to get a base for my water chemistry.

Thanks

I'll do some testings tonight so I'll get 'em up as soon as finish testing... :)

Thank you Amanda... I still have remnants of the Purple Haze on one of the big rocks on the left but they aren't getting too much light so they aren't as bright and they don't have the speckles on them.... I'll check out your post... :)

finally some parameter test results from tonight... tomorrow, I'm finally gonna be able to do my first water change since the move from the 32g... :)

API test kit -- Alk - 10 dkH
API test kit -- pH - 8.4
API test kit -- Calcium - 460
Seachem test kit -- Mg - 1500

overall, I think the tank is getting to where I want it to be... less frags and more of a reef tank nano... looking forward to getting the colors back though... next stop, a Vortech pump... ;)

You actually dosing Mg? That is quite high, but I guess you really don't have THAT much that would be using it. Glad you are happy with your tank....I am interested to see if you can actually use a Vortech in that small of a tank.

I'll have to double check on the Mg reading... I'm not too concern about it for now... I do plan on doing a 20% water change today and test again after a few days... as for the Vortech's, I've seen YouTube video's of both the MP20 and MP40 on a 28g JBJ... I'm leaning towards getting, hopefully trading, for the MP40... I can't believe I'm actually liking all this techie stuff... for the longest time, I've been very basic with my set up... over the past few months, I've been upgrading my equipment and I'm glad I did... the 28g set up is by far the easiest tank to maintain in my years of reefing... LoLz... :)

Yeah tech=$$ unfortunately. I can imagine that a smaller tank is easier to keep up with. I'm guessing the MP40 is the only powerhead you would need in the tank, and the nice thing is, it comes with a controller right?

controller, yup... it'll be cleaner looking with Vortech pump.. right now, I'm using two Koralia Nano's and I just dunno what to do with the wires.. LoLz.. I'm sure I can figure it out but I like what I've been reading and seeing about the Vortech pumps.. :)

Plus you can make wavesssssss.....kinda :). Let us know how you like it.

yeah... I'm looking forward to getting the pump... hopefully by next week... I'll have some videos once I get it tuned... :)

btw, I wanted to document the first water change since the downgrade... and added new carbon... I'll test the water again in a week... this time, I'm not going to dose anything to see if there's any significant change... I hope in the next month or two, the corals will adjust to their new tank and gain their full colors... :)
