Hello R2R, I've recently purchased a 75 gallon Oceanic tank (reef ready) and stand with 5, 5 gallon buckets of live rock, a current T5 light and a few other accessories. I've been lurking your forums for the past week, and trying to acquire some knowledge. Loki2902 has been a huge help to me thus far, so I'd like to give him some thanks publicly here.

The powerheads after some cleaning

The tank came with a large HOB Emporer filter, and a Tom Richards rp3 filter/skimmer combo. I've decided do away with those filters and I purchased a 29G tank to build into a sump for my system. The glass has been ordered and should be cut early this week!

I also ordered a Reef Octopus 4 for my skimmer, rated for 100g, so I figured it was a safe bet for my 75g tank.

I've had some extra time waiting for my glass to be cut, and the skimmer to arrive, so I've done some work to the Current T5 fixture. Everything was covered in salt residue when I got it, so after the initial cleaning I decided to hang the fixture, because the plastic legs that were on it were so flimsy. The way I hung it with quick releases I can remove the rear quick releases, and connect them to the top eye hooks which moves the light up ~6" and tilts it up so that I have full access to the aquarium without having to unplug/remove the light fixture.

When I received the fixture it was equipped with 2 5mm moonlight LED's but they were corroded by the saltwater and one wasn't working properly. So I ordered a few new components from my favorite source, (V-Leds.com) and went to town. The LED's are waterproof and ~35% brighter than a standard 5mm LED.

(Soldered and heat-shrinked connections.)

I used the previously existing LED holes to run the new LED's through. I plan to silicone these holes shut before filling the tank with water.

I also took time to wire-loom the 4 cords that came off of the light in an effort to clean it up a bit.

After reading a thread yesterday about GFCI outlets, I did the proper testing of my house and found that my electric plug had a GFCI on the circut, but it was after the plug I will utilize, so I installed a new one.

More to come! I'm happy I found this forum to guide me!
Comments and tips are welcome!

Looking good! You'll love the 75's dimensions, I used to have one before I upgraded and it was awesome, I just outgrew it.

I have a moderate amount of experience with leds, they're not too bad to work with. Thanks for the compliment

Don't forget to use a ball valve so you can adjust the flow. They are cheap.

Go pokes

Ok, I'll look into this. What qualities do you look for in a pump

Power consumption & reliability are my primary factors. I like the Danner mag drive pumps for applications like this. I run a mag 18 on my 90 but I have a good 50% of the flow split off going into reactors(well i will in the future, I jut plumbed this weekend, reactors aren't online quite yet)

Danner Mag-Drive Supreme Water Pump

looking @ this mag 7, it seems the return line is threaded.. What kind of hose would I use for this? my return on the drilled tank is a 3/4" bulkhead iirc.

I just use flexible clear tubing found at Home Depot or a similar vendor, get a smaller size and heat the end up in some boiling water and then force it on. It's a bear to do but it works well.

Ok, i wasn't sure if there was a special threaded hose people used. Ill zip tie it on for some extra insurance lol.

Alright, i've ordered a Danner Mag drive 9.5 pump, should arrive thursday! I already have some 3/4" hose and a ball valve for it. Reef Octopus skimmer should be here tomorrow hopefully. Going to try to assemble the sump tank today if I have time.

I have the overflow about 1/2 full of water, and I marked the water level with an expo ( i know there will be evaporation) just to monitor and make sure i don't have a slow drip or anything. We're getting closer to aquascaping and water!

I do want to ask though, how do you go about stacking live rock? literally just stack it on top of each other?
