I got a Koralia 1050 in September and now, for the second time it has broken.

A little added info - it is running on a wavemaker as designed. The front cones are breaking at the little anti-reverse bumper. The bumper totally breaks off and this time I have no idea where it ended up. Like I said, this is the second time it's failed in 7 months. They sent me a replacement cone in November and I just got the email today saying they are sending another.

The customer service isn't impressing me either, as the last time it took nearly 3 weeks to get the part after a week waiting for them to send one. I'm more than a little bothered by this, as the warrantee will run out in a few months and then I will have a non-working point of sale when it breaks again.

I'm wondering if anybody else is having this problem, or if my two failures are just a fluke? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Mitch

I had three (two 1400's and one 1050) croak within 8 months of purchase. Repeatedly replacing a part that continually breaks due to poor design is not much of a warranty. I don't want a new front cone from them. I'm working with the LFS I got them from to try to get new units or a refund.

Replacing them with Vortechs anyway - just haven't had time to set them up.

It's been my experience that Hydor stuff is very hit-or-miss. Won't waste any more money on their stuff.

That's a drag. I guess when the new cone comes in I will just take it off the wavemaker, even though that's why I got it to begin with.

Very frustrating that they apparently aren't going to re-engineer the cone.

Yup, those things are pieces of junk. Been through 5 different ones, and none of them are running. Don't waste money on Koralias

I just don't think the koralias were ever meant for wavemakers. I think they just tried pushing it into the market without a redesign.. unfortunate.

I asked them if they are looking into the issue and redesigning it and there was absolutely ne response to the question. Their reply was just "We will send you one". I'm anxious to see how long it takes to get the replacement.

I have seen posts from people talking about the great customer service from Hydor, but I don't see it at all.

Sad.

I've had the same experience. It didn't take long for me to give up and go to Vortechs. They are quite a bit more expensive, but they are amazing!

I replaced all my old koralias when the evo ones came out last year 3 months later the front blew out on 2 of them they sent replacements 2 months ago one would no longer work on the wavemaker guess the others will follow shortly won't buy them again but can't afford the vortechs sucks

I remember the guy sent me the parts fairly quickly when I needed to replace the little piece in the center.

Its funny that I was mixing water downstairs just a little while ago, and was using my 1050s and both of them started backwards. Awesome.

I had the old Koralia 4s and added a couple Evo 1400s right before upgrading to Vortechs. Within a week of putting the Evos on a timer, one of them broke the rubber stopper and started running in reverse. Now I use them for water changes and they've been kicking the bucket one after another. They're a cheap way to get a decent amount of flow, but far from durable

I'm shocked they haven't fixed this. Koralia used to be great pumps, but they've really gone downhill with this line.

one week from my original post on the 8th today another 1050 won't run except in reverse & and the cover bumper thingy has blown off all that is left is for the 1400 to go guess I'll give that a month since I bought the 1050s & the next month the 1400 crap a doodle!! I just emailed them so we shall see what they say

WOW!
After reading this I'm glad I keep my old K4's and didn't go with the newer ones and the WM.

Someday I'll go vortechs..........

Well...I took the bait. I ran 3's and 4's in the past and they were great, so when I heard about the new pumps, I was excited, and got some of the first ones shipped out. Needless to say, its all been downhill from there. :)

Yup, they should re-introduce the originals. They were MUCH better pumps from what I see. Either that, or they should at least consider addressing what is obviously NOT an isolated case. I run my system on a shoestring budget so this is more than just a mild aggravation. Some day when I get serious I will have a Vortech but for now I plug along with Prop pumps and PowerHeads....

I just cannot imagine that Hydor is just acting like there is no problem...I think of it as the "Ostrich" defense....heads in the sand.....

Yeah, from what I've seen, they continue to just send out parts to attempt the fix, but it doesn't look like its working by far. These things were doomed from the start, as a huge thread popped up immediately after release about them starting up backwards in which I was a part of.

how depressing i was plan on upgrading the EVO instead of taking the dive in the vortechs, but after reading this guess will start looking for a good deal on some vortechs.

Yup, stay away, unless you like wasting money and being stressed out, haha. Keep an eye out on the selling forums to catch a good deal.
