Hi there, my name is Louie and I started my tank 9 months ago. I'm new to R2R and was on the other site. Like every other saltwater enthusiast, I started my first tank with the simple goal of having a thriving reef with tons of color, movement, interesting critters, vibrant fish, and so on. And probably like every other saltwater enthusiast, after water hit the sand, I have been hooked ever since.
I've always been into keeping fish and had a freshwater tank in college. Since starting my current setup I've been through the trials and tribulations of reef keeping from the "uglies", spikes in nutrients, and to finally a reef that is low maintenance and a joy to look at everyday. I will say, this hobby is expensive and addicting. I'm actually a little afraid to total the money I've spent to get into this hobby to feed the addiction. I don't know how many times I've used the inhabitants in my tank to justify to my wife that I need X piece of equipment for the betterment of their lives. I'm running out of excuses and she and I just accept at this point that I have a passion for keeping a small piece of the ocean, with near perfect ocean like parameters, in a glass case in our living room. I don't even know what a TV is anymore.
So that said, I'm loving the hobby. I'm less neurotic now when something in the tank seems a bit off and have learned to just enjoy it for what it is and that's worked for me. As of right now, I have a 29 gallon nano with mainly LPS, Z's and P's, a couple softies, two mocha clowns named Riggs and Murtaugh, azure damsel, yellow watchman and his buddy Bob the builder (pistol), Royal Gramma, sump, fuge, Kessil LED, oh and Rick James my skunk cleaner Shrimp. Just one big happy family.
I'm just now plumbing up a frag tank as I've now entered the next stage of reef keeping, frag junky. And of course last but certainly not least as I'm most excited about this, I just received a 180 gallon tank from a fellow reefer for the one time price of free ninety-nine! So the build is on and I'm securing equipment for the next chapter. Build thread maybe to follow. See ya online.
