Still performing bi-weekly 50% changes.
I manually removed the rocks and scrubbed with a soft brush to remove as muck hair like algae as possible. I'm not sure what the stuff is, but the addition of carbon to the filter seems to have helped.
I'm going to give myself an early Xmas present this week, and get some coral soon.

looks pretty clean now man! did you ever make the surface skimmer box? I ordered a small box to mod my aquaclear. when did you add carbon? i feel like i remember someone saying hair algae can be a phosphate issue. My buddy who used tap water for awhile has major hair algae issues but i saw you said you had a RO unit or something. have you tested any of the parameters?

what corals you thinking of getting? are they your first corals ever?

I ended up not needing the filter skimmer box. Pointing the powerhead at the surface fixed the surface scum problem. I added carbon about 2 weeks ago.

When I get around to adding corals, they will be my first. i think i was gonna try a mushroom and some zoa's. the only current resident is 1 red hermit crab.

tu glue acrylic use weld on 3 and weld on B16. #3 is for gluing them liquid like, and then you put #b16 on top of it is like a paste to cover up any crack or holes the liquid one might have left. FOr fish you can try Green banded gobbies they are small i currently have two on my tank

looking really good Josh. Have you tested for ammonia and nitrites yet? If your parameters are all good you might want to think about a few more snails......some turbo, astrea, and cerith

Finally got a piscine inhabitant for my tank today. Decided on a firefish goby.

I also added two turbo snails.

My skimmer wasn't foaming very much over the past week or two. After I added the fish, I have some foam. It will most likely need adjusting, but maybe it will help.

Sorry to hear. Dartfish tend to be very skittish and dart to the surface when startled. You could just get a fish who is not prone to jump, I think true percula clownfish are a good bet but I've had an ocelleras jump so I would recommend you confirm what is at the LFS is a perc. I think chromis or cardinal fish seem to be ok as well, and you could get a yellow clown goby they like to perch on the rocks and are a great 10g fish.

@spacetime,
Thank you for the suggestions. After 2 months of an empty tank, I think I will start looking around for another inhabitant.
Is a black-ray gobi a dart fish? Will I have a jumping issue with it?
Also, if I go the clown route, how can I tell if it is a true percula?

All of my snails have died, but the crabs are going strong. :/
Not too bad, considering I haven't done a WC in 2 months, just RO top offs.

Time to head up to the LFS for some reef salt.

Changed 5gallons of water this eeek, and added 2 cerith snails and my first coral.

I also rearranged the rockwork a bit too.

Any help with my coral id?
I got the cheapest frag in the store, they get expensive fast up here. Is 10-15 $ per head for a zoa colony normal everywhere?

Not sure what this is, but the LFS said it was easy. And it was only $5.
