Nick's mancave

I’ve got a 5g bucket in the stand, just drilled a hole in the lid to put the tube through. It lasts a long time, I don’t have to fill it up very often. Got the ATO from my LFS, they even helped with the tube! Cut it to size and used a heat gun to shrink it to the pump.

it uses electronic sensors, which makes me nervous, But has worked perfectly for about 9 months now so I can’t complain.

No stand with this build unless I make one. There is a solid wood desk that I may be able to mod into a makeshift cabinet.

I have a JBJ 28. Came with the CFL lid. I replaced it with this referenced LED lid. Night and day improvement in a lot of ways, in particular fan noise.
Thanks for stopping in. Pics or it never happened;)
I found a member that has a halide clip on. So we are going screen top and halide.
@Magellan runs with halide and raves about it. So we are going a little old school.

Got any FTS? I would love to see some pics, I’ve considered that upgrade before, but as @sfin52 said, I rave about my MH!

Can't go wrong with mh!

This was my first tank, got a great deal with it on Dr Foster Smith complete setup with the CFL hood. Had trouble with the CFL and bought the LED hood. Fully programmable red blue white channels.

It works well for me because I don't have an ATO on it and the hood really keeps evaporation down. I put an aquamaxx 1.5 HOB in the back left chamber and love it. Had to shorten the length of the PVC tube between the intake and the skimmer body to move it back so the lid could open. Tank photo skills are not good but here they are :)

looks great! I like how you also don’t have a powerhead, I really don’t think this tank needs one :) Did you always run the skimmer, or did you try it without one first? (I never have, no issues)

I ran it for about a year with no skimmer. I was afraid it was getting overloaded with all my coral additions and growing fish. What do you run for media?

Filter sponge, purigen, phosguard, bio media (marine pure and matrix) In the media chamber. I also have more marine pure spheres in the bottom of the back (where the water flows down and out of the media basket) and a bag of carbon hanging above one of the returns.

Have you thought about some barnacle blennys?
Where would I stick it
Do you ask this question often ;)

ive read about people removing the dividers in the media basket and just filling it up with chaeto. I would still keep a filter sponge on top though, rinse it out every 2-3 days. But be sure that’s what you want to do, those media baskets cost as much as you paid for the tank!

I'm not going to do that to the media basket. That's just nonsense.

ALL THE TIME

I also need a spot for carbon. That just seems wise
My carbon hangs in a bag above the return on the left side, I have my ATO sensor above the return on the right. Personally I wouldn’t go the chaeto route, the space just isn’t that large where it would grow, even if you removed the media basket entirely (but then you would still need something to put back in its place to hold the chaeto. You could always set up a sump in that cabinet you are going to build and just do a ghost overflow if you REALLY want to use chaeto lol (but that sorta defeats the purpose of the AIO).

I have kinda a lot of filtration, but I also feed heavily (fish and corals twice a day) So I’m sure you could easily get away with less. When I first set the tank up my LFS said “filter sponge, purigen, matrix carbon”

I have random flow return. So exactly how do these things work
The weird shaped nozzles that are supposed to blast water in every direction?

i was told that you need a good bit more power behind them than what the returns on this AIO give, never tried them. But the concept is that you just replace the stock nozzles with the new ones.
