Just to point out… it’s not the testing the tank that gets reefers in to trouble… it’s overreacting fast to the test results. Knowing where you are at is different than chasing parameters
The number itself doesn't really mean anything unless you know the science behind it how it works. I really don't think OP knows would know what the results meant if he tried to test. He just knows how to do water changes...

I manually test the following...

Alkalinity - 12 times a day
Calcium - 8 times a day
Magnesium - 4 times a day
pH - 3 times a day
Salinity - 14 times daily
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate - 6 times a day
Iron - just 2x a day
Iodine - 3x a week
ICP test every other day to make sure my test kits are good
I use 6 different thermometers to watch temperature
I just started testing strontium daily as well and will start potassium next week

Let us know how the tank is in 5 years and if you still do water changes every other day. Been at this long enough to know we'll never see that update. Flex posts like this are dime a dozen. The updates are non existent.

PS - I don't test what I said above and I don't do water changes. Tank is in my build thread.
And so are flex comments like these. Stick to your build post. Lol go test... since I'm not.

If you're still testing your tank to know where it stands after 5 years... id guess you'd know or would have feel if anything is out of whack in your system. If my fish seem happy/corals are growing... all is good.

What's Facebook? Is that a place for old people as well... lol sorry.

Oh my bad... it feels like tik tok or Instagram.

It's all the same. Photos and no content and angst.

Everyone gets old someday.

Lol... all the fish and corals have been in There sfor atlleast 6 months now. It isn't an experiment anymore... it's an established thriving Reef.
A six month old tank isn’t an established thriving reef, it’s very much still maturing. Also, pretty misleading to claim that testing isn’t necessary while leaving out the fact that you’re doing a 25% water change every other day in your original post.

Haha... But for you it's easy! You don't need any science knowledge!!
Lol... dude. There isn't much science behind keeping a reef tank. I could easily throw on a lab coat bust out the kits and bill nye away.

Ig. Too old for tik tok... not old enough for fb. I did clarify to ask away. And no test. Which I'm not doing.

Maybe try this… write down where you think your parameters are at… then test and see how close your eyeballs were. I agree that the first assessment is how things look, I didn’t say I don’t do that but a trend is also helpful to know. Even if things look good I’d test to see what that means scientifically.

Key to a successful reef is to never leave... stay tuned

Scrolling through pages of comments isn't great for information though. It ends up broken or people don't bother. A nice thought-out post of... hey this is my tank and this is what I am doing in the first post is more conductive of sharing information.

Mmm. No I'm sure it's stable and mature... add 4 months to your 6. Lol not misleading. I'm not testing...

Lol... would of been helpful had the right questions been asked. Instead I get a bunch of reef elitist with 100 gal tanks chime in like they know what they're talking about. It's JUST a reef tank lol... fish in a box with corals. If you can't keep them alive or get them to grow then idk... lol

Ya honestly, what is the point. Throw it all in the trash.

Maybe go solve Rubik's cubes

To be fair... nano's are the easiest to keep imo... people always say they are hard but... because you can do larger % water changes... they are the easiest. That whole... more water is better seems like total crap to me. People grow corals in a 2g cookie jar with water changes which is not a difficult concept. Change. The. Water.

Just my opinion ofc.

So I guess no testing and a bunch of acros in a nano will possibly some people off on here... PSA your reef keeping methods on a 50 gal + DOES NOT apply to a tank this size. You should know this by now. It is NOT necessary to test a tank so small. And ALOT easier to keep parameters stable in such a confined space... any question regarding lighting/flow/filtration/maintenance etc will be happily answered.

This will be a satisfying ending, im usually pretty good at guessing endings of movies, I feel like this is a remake of a classic.

Good luck hitting that moving target that doesn't really start moving before the 2yr mark (frags grow out). Throw humble right out the window who needs that.

I'll save the info so maybe I can pat my self on the back in 6-12 months.(hopefully not)

So far so good, good looking tank, i do hope it goes great and inspires others, and changes minds, I will wait to see the answer.

I have a lighting question can you share a picture in white light? In that extremely blue picture it doesn't look like any of your acros have any p.e I can tell the digi's do but hard to see anything in blue light..
