so there has been a discovery in my tank.... i HAD 6 RFA's (2 from my LFS, 3 from TopShelfAquatics, 1 TidalGardens). the one from tidal gardens was labeled as a "pacific green RFA", the rest just RFA (which i assume are from the carribean...) yesterday, i was inspecting my tank and lo and behold.. i found another RFA for what it seems!! when shriveled, it is the size of a normal sized nutmeg. the tentacles on it are VERY short, much smaller than my smallest RFA which is about half an inch in diameter. i am assuming the pacific RFA split but to my knowledge, RFA's expel into the water column and if there is success, there would be incredibly small sized RFA's? why is this new discovered RFA much bigger?? do pacific RFA's split, and don't propagate via normal RFA reproduction?

i will attempt to get a picture today. it was moving around a lot last night.

Pic would help, no type of rfa splits for reproduction.

lights are out currently. but this is the picture of the RFA in question. would like to add that these RFAs are over two months old. the “pacific” RFA is about 5-7 months.

Thanks, but need a pic of it opened up to identify if it is a rfa or something else.
will provide pictures in the AM. it has no color as of now, and the size of the tentacles in the picture are how big they actually are when it’s opened.

Is it a Borneman Anemone by any chance? Those do split, usually by twisting off the base which grows into a new anemone.

I think what you have is a borneman anemone, not a rock flower. Tidal gardens sells them as pacific rock flowers, im not sure they know the difference. Borrnemans split by twisting their foot, kind of like pedal laceration. Give it a goog

the pictures provided in that thread are indeed an exact ID of what i have!! seems TidalGarden mislabeled their anemone…all this time i thought i had 6 RFAs, turns out i had 5, and a borneman anemone! now TWO!

Came here to say that it has to be mislabeled, as there are no rock flower anemones that reside in the pacific. They are Atlantic species.
