Plumbing a chiller

Hi everyone,

I would like to plumb my chiller “inline” with the return pump, i.e., feeding it from a T in the return line and return the chiller output to that same return line further down the road. From a fuid Dynamics perspective, would the return line ”accept” the water coming from the chiller or would it want to push water into the chiller from the output as well?

I think what you might want is to plumb the chiller using a by pass. This will let you remove the chiller for service without turning off the return pump while still using the 2 Ts that you describe. I have a picture of an irrigation bypass below.

Thank you very much. Yes, this is precisely what I am thinking about doing but was unclear whether the outlet would suffer some back pressure from the water flowing in the main return pipe. Great!
