Thanks for sharing! How many gallons do you figure a 33 long would be?
What specifically do you feel would be easier with a smaller tank?
33 long is 48in x 12 x 12, not sure how many gallons it would actually hold.
The 180 looks nice, grows corals well, and has some beautiful tangs in it. But the maintenance needed to maintain it takes a good amount of time. To clean the glass completely, water change, vacuum the sand, and clean the skimmer takes about 2 hours start to finish. Then factor in refilling two part containers, cleaning the glass during the week, filling the ato. The time time adds up, and I find myself not wanting to do things all the time.
My 20 long in my office is the opposite. Refill the ato every two weeks and a five gallon water change every week. I haven't even touched the glass in over a month and it still looks good.
Sometimes the big tank looks good on paper, and fits the space in the room. But in reality, it's not the right fit. I've had it set up for about two years and I'm really considering selling it.
