@Eagle_Steve - Did you lose power due to the storm?
Yup. The tree that I cleared one lane worth with a hatchet missed a power line, but tons of other trees took some out. We just got it back about 2 hours ago.

Whole home genny for the win. All tanks are on battery back ups for data center servers and this gives them 3-4 hours of run time at all devices running, which is plenty enough time for the genny to start and the panel to switch over to genny power.

Well, no tank snad/polish last night. We pulled a @Scratch08 and did taco/tequila for dinner lol.

Been working on the tank for just over an hour now and one of the 2 sides is done. Yup. Only 2 sides to sand/polish. One is painted black and the other is the overflow.

See below. I was able to start at 600. Pay attention to sand and encrusted rock. I strirred up the sand a little and it stayed a tad cloudy the whole time.

I still have the 15k grit to do, but my arm needs to chill a little lol.

OK. 15k grit is done. Even with somewhat cloudy water, you can see the snail 6 or so feet away on back wall.

@JCOLE acrylic is worth it, for sure. The fact you can throw an hour and a half and have a side look like this is why I keep buying acrylic. Outside the weight savings lol. All in all, I should be done by lunch. The short side is harder to do, as less room to move around.

Comparison using corner shot. Yes there is a tad of alage on there, but I cleaned it off for this pic. Night and day difference when looking at it.

Seriously, what are your thoughts on a random orbital sander with wet dry paper and the tank empty?

You wouldn't have to go different directions per se but, it would make it a ton easier.

Random orbital sander could bang up the sides at the seams if not careful. I do use a random orbital buffer for polishing when tank is empty, but I can watch the haze and stay away from the seams some. I also prefer to finish seams by hand, as a just in case lol.

you were able to do it with everything in the tank? hmmm, were you doing the inside or the outside /
Inside. Will be doing outside with 5-8k to 15k just cause when all done. I will also put a ceramic coat on it. Figure that will make it easier to clean and I still have a ton from doing my new ride a few days ago. I will do that by hand, except the final polish. The final polish will be my buffer.

Looks great!! You should make a video of how to do this as I am sure I will need to do this down the road. :D

And this is why I did it.

Sitting at my desk, I can look to the left and have a nice view of the tank. The view was horrible and now I see this. All the way to the back wall and the tank still has dust from moving the sand out of the way floating about. Once the front is done and the cloudyness clears, I may actually enjoy the view again.

I can do that. Just make one for a small section of the tank and pause between the long bits of sanding.

Yeah, luckily, all the scratches in this tank are in the middle so I can get close to the seams but avoid them.

I will polish with number one cleaner/polish novus after 10000 grit (highest I could find for a 5" random orbital)

yes. I use ceramic coating on the outside too, and I have also used that Meguires product to help keep and unfog plastic headlight covers for cars...makes the outside of the tank easy to clean and feels slick...

I could have stopped at 10k and the tank would have been fine. But at least with 12k and 15k, doing by hand is not bad. Especially in an empty tank. No worse than waxing a car at that point.

I am very impressed with your results Eagle Steve, I was given a 70 gallon cube for free, with rounded corners. Its beat up, I am going to redo it (with no water in it) once I get this new roof on, second walkin and patio cover on. Tearing the old part of the bedroom roof off today...
