powerheads for 180

Trying to make a decision on powerheads for my new 180 gallon tank...72x24x24. My plans are to keep a mixed reef with sugar sand substrate.

I bought a ReefKeeper Lite III to control whatever I decide to buy but thought I would get everyone's opinions first.

I am partial to Hydor Koralia...I have seen alot of Vortechs up for sale lately and wonder why...if it is really the powerhead everyone says it is why are so many being resold.

Anyway...would love to hear as many opinions as possible.

I have decided on a Bubble Magus 200 skimmer for the tank...any one have one? Whaddya think?

The koralia magnum's are great powerheads imo. No shaft on them to worry about, powerful, low wattage and quiet. Tunze's are great as well but pricey.

I have two brandnew tunze 6101s and a brandnew 7095 controller. shoot me a pm if you are interested. also a 3 months old tunze 6212 wave box.

if money is no object, i'd go with vortech mp40's. 2 of them should work well.

Hydor Koralia's has come out with a newly designed powerheads ... smaller and more water movements ... Hydor EVO Koralia.

I have a line on some tunze powerheads...as long as the price is right I think I will go with those

If not, Hydor Koralia Magnums will win

The Koralia magnums are stupidly large, they look terrible in a tank, IMO. Vortech's or Tunze's FTW.

I run the magnum 8 in my tank. The comparable tunze pump flow wise was the same size. Thats why i didn't go with the tunze. The vortech is a slick unit and a wider flow then both but i cant deal with the noise in my livingroom. If it wouldn't be for the noise i would have went with the vortech's.
