Preserving or killing reefs?

What do you guys think of this?
I know there are many sites out there like this,but this site seems to be mass producing or should I say mass killing reefs for profit. It is kinda depressing imo. Look at this!

It shows the guys holding live starfish and other animals that they are "harvesting" just to dry out and sell.
For all of you clam lovers look at the giant clams they take out of the water to dry.....
And the massive amounts of sps colonies they are killing is unreal.....

What do you think on these type of buisnesses?

That is awful...absolutly a bad thing to do,I can understand harvesting the clams to eat,but they arent eating those acropora...thats BS...

Personally, I'd love to see them dried out just like they're doing to our reefs. How can this even be allowed? At least reefers are making an attempt to keep the species alive.

Can't really be mad at them though. If people wouldn't buy them they wouldn't sell nor be in business. Sad really

I understand that it is their buisness,but it appears like they are doing it without limits,I think they should not be able to dry out such mass quantities of live organisms,maybe put more restrictions to it.

I agree,this doesnt matter if this is a bussiness or not.

Our reefs are at more danger right now that Tigers and Lions are.Tigers and Lions are on the endangered list,just as our Earths reefs are,YET,you can not shoot a Tiger/Lion,but,we can collect from our reefs?Does that make any since at all?To me,no,non at all.

Our reefs should not be used for such uses.This is absolutly stupid and a very ignorant way to kill of our hobby.I really want to see this shut down,like ASAP.

Yea, the huge piles of corals are kinda nutzo...even the clams. Some of those coral heads probably took less time to grow than some of those giant clams.

Either way from what I can see it seems somewhat wasteful. You wonder what their actual protocols are. I bet the owners are taking the natives to the bank on it as well.

So as I look at it more,it appears like they take the acros out of the ocean and throw them on the beach to dry...........Bc in the pics some of the acros still have color but they are just sitting on the beach......

That's horrible for sure we need to figure out how to order those things live from them that would make this hobby cheap again and they wouldn't be killing as many!
But seriously those are the thing the Sea Shepard needs to be focussed on not us guys that do our best to make our hobby thrive ugggghhgghhh!

Remember income does not equal profit. While I agree in many cases they could get more income keeping it alive that does not mean it equals more profits. The cost structure for what they are doing is much different than selling live coral.

I would suggest anyone involved in making a difference evaluate in totality what ALF is and what they do. Think many will conclude there may be more effective ways to advance an agenda that does not involve illegal efforts and being identified as a terrorist (I am not making the claim they are terrorists; that is somewhat subjective evaluation, but some governments have identified them as such).

Sadly I agree. Unfortunately depending on the situation it is hard to blame the buyer. Lot of coral skeletons wash up on beaches (or I get from the LFS after death...). Someone buying these indirectly (where it is not obvious the methods) will likely have no idea what is going on here. I see them on craigslist quite often and honestly never even considered the thought that someone was dragging live acros out of the ocean just to let them dry and sell.

Very true

And for the profit issue, it seems they already have very little overhead, just a warehouse. They don't even use diving gear so its probably 90 percent profit
