I’m currently working on the plumbing for a 40 breeder. Using a 600gph overflow and plan on plumbing a manifold for 2 valves for an eventual carbon reactor and UV. Any suggestions for a controllable dc pump? Several pvc elbows and I’m also doing a 2 nozzle loc line return. I have a sicce 3.0 ac pump in my cart at 714 gph but have my doubts that it will be sufficient

There are lots of options out there. Do you plan to us any controllers? Hydros has several brands that they're compatible with. Neptune as well.

If you like SICCE, and want controllability - the SDC line is pretty nice, and relatively affordable. the SDC 6 would be enough.

The Vectra S2 would be a nice pump too - with plenty of overhead and super quite

Jebao pumps come in all sizes and are super inexpensive

I’m playing around with using the hydros but not sure in what capacity yet. Meticulously planning a small 40 breeder is fun and exhausting. I’m really taking time with it

The price scared me a bit but that was my first pick

With the description of how you are setting it up, with the two loc-line inlets - you could easily run 1 2/in RFG on each side - get the larger pump and over drive them a bit. You wont need any powerheads, so that will easily offset the cost of the return pump.

You could further offset costs by going with the smaller pump, but plumb the returns with 3/4in or better yet 1in PVC pipe. Then reduce it down to 1/2in Bulkheads (reducing it down right at the bulkhead). This will provide the highest level of throughput do to slower velocity (less friction) inside the pipe. Its a simpel trick to get the msot out of a return pump.

Go with slip-fit bulkheads and then use this flow kit with the include Multidapter fitting to connect directly to the bulkhead
Then add one of these to each outlets

Super simple and cost effective way to create great flow in a 40-gallon tank.
