mrsaltwatertank I will take your advice (and others) and stick with QT longer then 4 days next time, and have the tank thoroughly cycled with no amn or nitrate.
Bought the fish from a local MTRC club member and pm'd him after a few days of the fish in QT , he assured we the fish was 'really healthy'. So I based my actions on a few variables. The LFS fish don't look so good to me either and I hear alot of 'ich' horror stories from them. But in the future I might buy from an online vendor which may or may not be worse then a LFS.
Guess what I was trying to find out from others is every ones threshold for the QT experience, and/or if everyone toughs it out with the stressed fish in QT for 4-8 weeks.
I haven't had issues with fish being constantly stressed out during my 30 days QT time. Even my clown tang which is a very active fish settled down well in QT and sailed through the whole experience without a problem.
Keep in mind that it has been scientifically proven that some fish can carry ich and never show symptoms. That means a fish that looks healthy might be carrying ich and you won't know it. This fact is often why fish that are healthy for a long time "suddenly" get sick when stressful events - tank move, new fish introduction to the tank, extended power outage, etc - pop up.
People blame the ich for "just randomly" showing up when in reality it was there all along. Sometimes the fish fight off the ich in the display tank which on one hand is good that the fish got better and on the other hand ich is definitely in the tank at that point and who knows when it will pop up again.
I do as jcdeng does. I trust NO ONE when it comes to fish. I QT everything now, even if it came from a fellow reefer or a highly-reputable online supplier. QT'ing a fish for 30 days is much less effort than dealing with a disease outbreak.
