When you cycle through the color temperatures manually, the one it beeps on is the brightest, IIRC. You can get the same intensity with the manual controls as with the programmed controls. But if you don't program the light, you're missing out on so much functionality...

I use a MacBook Pro to program my lights, actually -- Parallels with Windows 7 in a virtual machine. Works great!

The lights will retain their program through a power outage, so you may be able to take them to a friend's PC too.

I also use a Mac. Instead of buying Parallels I run VirtualBox (free). You could use Windows 7 for 30 days without needing an activation key if you don't have a windows license.
