Okay, here's a question for you guys. What is the difference between the pokerstar monti and rainbow monti?

I have seen lots of both and I personally think that a pokerstar monti is just a rainbow with a predominance of green polyps. Then if you look on Exotic Frags they have a "pokerstar" that looks just like a rainbow. What's the diff??

I've had both for quite some time. The pokestar "usually" just keeps it's green polyps. When it does change color it will look like a very pale rainbow. It doesn't get vibrant colors.

The Pokerstar has only one color polyps

The Rainbow has a variety of colors. Mine has bright orange polyps and a light blue abse on the new growth and it transitions to green-orange polyps, then to bright green p[lyps on the old growht.

Here are some pics:

That is sweet, but I have seen the rainbow that are well aged and the polyps in the older sections" more towards the middle" of the colony where all the polyps are the same color....Unless there is a true definant rainbow and the ones I have seen were all trying to be passed of as Rainbow.....That could very well be....

One thing I have always thought when looking at rainbow montis is what I think Azurel was alluding to as well that when they get big you dont see the rainbow as much because the different colored polyps are only on the growing edge (at least the ones I have seen) thus as they get bigger you notice the different colors more and more. true pokerstar

Maybe this one is the real deal? This is the first one I've found that has 0 orange polyps.

I just got them today. They are wild maricultured, if that makes any sense. They were supposed to be rainbow's, but I've looked closely at all of them and can't find one orange polyp.
I'm really in love with the color of the base. My rainbow's from this guy before were more of a superman blue, not this crazy turquoise color.

Off to bed for me! lol

These arent the best pictures(workin on that) but these newly cut monti's are Rainbow, Pokerstar, and Purple haze.

I would agree that the differences between Pokerstar and Rainbow are hard to distinguish. The colony of Pokerstar that I cut had all neon green polyps and no orange near the growth ring.

As usual great pics Bob.

When you process the photos, if you take some of the blue out and add a little red, they will come out more true to color. Nice pic!

This one is similar to a pokerstar, but the colour of the base is not right, IMO.....pokerstars have a purple-ish base and emerald green polyps...we get them fairly often in (aqua-cultured) Indo SPS shipments.

this is a pokerstar (as it's know in Toronto, anyways!)

as for the Rainbow Monti....it doesn't get any better than what BeakerBob posted ;)

But Patwa, look closely at the base of that pokerstar. It has orange polyps. So is it a true pokerstar? hehe
