Red Bugs?? Have you had them?

Well just wondering how many of you have had or do have red bugs on your sps. Be honest we need a true poll! :D

Not yet but i only have 2 sps frags now. I gave all my other ones away as my tank is not setup for sps.

I have had them come in on frags several times. They never made it into the display though.:D

Had them and it was pretty easy to get rid of them. i was able to remove all the acros and put them in a q-tank and treated that tank with interceptor. Just have good flow in the tank as they slime. Works great. I have not had them in over a year now.

Just treated my tank this weekend for redbugs. I picked a maricultured millie from a local fish store that must have been loaded with them. I treated the tank with interceptor and everything looks good now.

Not yet knock on wood, I helped another reefer with them though.. it took three treatments and they are finally gone. He takes photos using his macro lens - with the naked eye, you can not see them. I never knew what they looked like until he showed me.

I learned allot watching someone treat for them. Now I inspect every coral coming in and buy only from reefers that treat or have known good frag tanks from their own stock.

I have had them as well in two separate tanks.

They are the easiest SPS pest to rid yourself of, that's for sure. AEFW is a whole other story and the same with Monti Nudi's.

yep i will agree, and i did only 2 treatments, but the first one was 4 times the recommended amount, the second on was only 2 times the recommended amount..... i never did a water change after the first one, just added carbon, and the second one i did a 25% water change and added carbon.... this was a year ago, luckly it was when i was changing from a 55 to a 120, so i was abble to get out all of my shrimp and crabs.....

All sps get several dips before entering my tank so luckily I haven't had to deal with them yet.

Ill take RB anytime than FW :).. I had them before but now they are all gone and QT is the best method for SPS entering your main tank

I have a complete treatment protocol that I created and follow and it includes several weeks of QT. I have been called OCD by some friends! :(

Yes, many new arrivals don't make it ... it's kind of survival of the fittest in my tanks! A friend has suggested that I gather my new arrivals in my QT tank and let them acclimate to the conditions for a week or so and then start in on the treatments. I plan on trying that to see if I experience less losses.

I've always dipped SPS corals in TMPCC before adding them to my tank. I've had a very high survival rate so far, though all my SPS frags have come from either LFS or locals, none that were shipped.

I know, I was mainly responding to the concern that dipping newly arrived corals can stress them. Luckily, red bug are one pest I haven't gotten yet.

yep, i had them come in on a blue tip stag. Did a recommended treatment and that got rid of them all. SPS had sweepers and polyps out full stretch for 2 weeks.. tank loved it. Killed all my hermits, but my shrimp and pods managed.

I do a 10 min tmpcc dip and a 2 hour interceptor dip. I also don't add any wild or maricultured stuff. I have one piece that I got wild and I gave that one a 12 hour interceptor dip and I also cut it away from the base.
I'm sure it stresses the corals out. I haven't lost any frags from the dipping in a long time. The first time I did an interceptor dip I used a whole pill in a 5 gallon bucket. I ended up losing those frags.

This thread has me worried. I've been staring at all my sps colonies looking for redbugs all day.

Yes, I have used it. It can be somewhat harsh on corals, but it's very effective for AEFW's.

FYI it doe's too eventdently you dindnt dip long enough it will kill pretty much any invert including acro crabs and teddy bear.
