I recently had gotten a red Sea auto top off system. I designed a 10 gallon reservoir to fit in the laundry room and the wires and hose to run through the crawlspace and then up the wall to the tank itself. Noise with this is not an issue. I’ve had a couple incidents with this unit thus far. Sometimes when I go to fill manually I have to hold the button and other times just press once. Not sure if it’s a user error, recent software update, or something I could be doing wrong. Tonight I clicked the manual fill button just to make sure water was still pumping. I’m always scared because of the tubing running through the crawspace of the house during wintertime in NJ. I endured the line was functioning properly and walked away. I came back right before bed to see the sump was almost overfilling with my 10gallon to reservoir almost empty. Instantly I grabbed a siphon to drain some of the water and is connected power to the ato. I drained some water and added Red Sea pro salt directly to the tank to get pack to 35ppt. It didn’t really affect the salinity as much as I thought but definitely scary. If I don’t catch that the pump would have pumped the rest of the water and would’ve continued as the reservoir is directly connect to my rodi with a float switch. All fish and coral seem to be good as I caught it very quickly. Any one have experience with something like this? Any tips to prevent this from happening again? Do you think all my fish, coral, and inverts will be affected?

I think your fish will be fine since you caught the issue quick. RO/DI overfilling the tank can definitely be catastrophic, your ATO setup is far more complicated than mine, so I'm unsure if the failsafe I use will help you:

I set my ATO pump to run only 1 minute per hour. This is more than enough time for proper top off, but also even if the sensor or other component doesn't detect that top-off is complete, 1 minute per hour of run time is generally not long enough to cause catastrophic salt dilution unless the aquarium itself is super tiny. I use Kasa wifi outlets for this, super user friendly and no cost app: https://amzn.to/4syR7xY
