Recently picked up a redsea 750xxl tank (glass only). It was replaced via warranty as the overflow glass was cracked during shipping. I decided to take it on as a new build and see if I could tinker with it and make a beautiful reef tank. 1st thing obviously was building the stand I was going to go with 80/20 but that’s crazy expensive (1500-2000) and this is a budget build. Metal also insanely expensive now and a replacement stand from redsea is let’s just say more expensive than both. So I ultimately choose wood since I had some laying around anyway. It’s made from 4x4 and 2x8 untreated wood. 2nd was getting the plumbing again redsea is great but the prices on replacement parts not so much, the redsea plumbing was going to cost 4-600 bucks and again this is a budget build and that’s not going to work. If you know redsea they have a bulkhead hub(little oval shaped plastic devil lol) that keeps you limited to their plumbing unless you buy adapters/sand down pvc and slip it in the original plumbing. So I figured I had to open up the overflow box anyways so I could see how removable it was. I decided after I popped the front panel of the box off that I’d use a multi tool to cut just underneath the hub and above the glass. Came out pretty good and a lot easier than I thought. I fitted 3 1 inch bulkheads and sealed the front panel back up. Now I have to get rock and sand and plumb it up. As for equipment I’m going with 150gallon baffled Rubbermaid sump, a jabeo 12000 dc return pump, 3-4 jabeo 150 gyres, a 500w heater, undecided on lights, and a skimmer. I have orphek Atlantiks and a eshops skimmer currently but may go a different route. Still need to skin the stand as well. Will post updates. Posted pictures of progress so far. Thanks

Plumbed it all up today. And put water in to test the seal job. So far so good. Now to get some more rock to scape it up, some sand, and I need to grab a Rubbermaid plug kit.

Pretty neat. Appreciate the pictures, especially the ones that show red seas odd plumbing bulk head. I'm in the process of having to temporarily take down this same tank and have heard its a pain to reconnect the red sea plumbing together. Am considering doing what you did and converting to 1" bulkheads. Anything special that you did for plumbing for a down pipe and emergency drain within the overflow chamber or just two different length 1" pvc pipes?

I just used 1” pipe different lengths, basic herbie style. Works like a charm no gurgling and pretty silent. Loudest part is drain pipes into the socks, which is going to stop when I get the sock holder built

Update, tank is now up and running and cycled, ended up taking a fellow reefers fish in. So I kind of rushed that part of adding fish in slowly but also took in a crap ton of his bio-blocks that are covered beneficial bacteria, and about 150lbs of established live rock that went right in my sump. Will post pictures when the diatoms phase ends(so ugly lol)
