I'm sorry to see this. But can anyone really be surprised at this point?

Yeah, those clamps will do the job, but, I would put a strip of wood between the glass and clamp.
You think it would survive without it. I am honestly petrified to loosen the clamps because that seem is almost split all the eay to the bottom. Got the clamps on within seconds of a complete failure.

I’m so tired of seeing these posts. Not from your end but it makes me sick that so many have been burned by Red Sea. I won’t buy any of their products and I hope they go out of business from this. It’s completely unacceptable. I’ve got an innovative marine tank and it’s been rock solid but I think I’m gonna go custom with full eurobracing on the top and bottom for peace of mind with my next tank.

Oof… my condolences…

Just yesterday, I broke down a G2 Reefer XL 525 that had split the front right seam and dumped over 100 gallons of saltwater on the owner’s floor at 3am one morning…

This is an extreme case, but I’d hate to see you suffer the same fate! that said, more info might help us point you towards a game plan which keeps your floors dry!

— is this “few weeks” the lead time before a new tank arrives?

— if so, is the new tank going in the same location as this Reefer?

Yes, a few weeks for a new tank and going in the same spot.

It's done. Leave it. I just like the idea of wood to distribute the contact point to the glass. But if the failure was imminent, don't touch it.

You could also remove some water from the tank to reduce pressure against the glass until you replace the tank. At this moment, for you, it isn't about aesthetics.

As harsh as this sounds, at this point we should assume all Red Sea tanks in use will start leaking 3-6 years after first use. I had two (original and replacement) that failed in 3 years.

So in my opinion it is good practice for RS tank owners to have a backup plan for when, not if, it starts leaking.

never owned a redsea tank, but if they are not replacing these tanks outright, they may have multiple lawsuits or possible class action coming their way

Replacing? no… if you are outside of warranty best they can do is 10% off on another RS tank.

And warranty process is a PIA as they will claim it is normal until the seam is almost completely detached, and won’t warranty it if the tank is drained.

I’ve actually seen multiple examples failing at sub-one year… it’s ridiculous…

Okay, this changes things significantly!

— because this tank already needs to come down before you can set up the new once, I’d recommend doing it sooner, rather than later!

I’ve found that setting a new tank up correctly takes days to weeks of committed effort, depending on complexity and how many hiccups you run into along the way…

Given that it’s at least a few weeks, but likely around a month before you have the new tank in position, filled, and chemically stable; it could be a wise move here to acquire a 100-ish gallon plastic stock tank to serve as your temporary livestock/rock holding container!

This stock tank would allow you to break down your leaky display, and get it out of the way preemptively so the new tank/stand can drop right into place once they arrive!
