Hi,
New to the forum.
I wanted some help knowing what I should get for my used tank I got.
I have a biocube 32 gallon tank with a stand, and it has a custom top so it can accommodate new lights. I do not have the old canopy. The back chambers are exposed, but do have a cover that goes over roughly half of the chambers.

I got it as an older custom tank, for a good deal. No leaks, tank is fine. Attached an old lighting system, but lighting is not my concern right now. I mainly want to know what to get so I can get the tank running, because I do not know how to plumb the tank very well. If necessary, I could maybe get another small tank just for a sump on the side, but would prefer against it. I have a budget of maybe lets say $250-500 for everything besides lighting.

All i have is:
The tank
Sand
Dry live rock caribsea
Lights

I technically have the old skimmer but its a super old $40 biocube skimmer.

I am a complete newbie for plumbing, so finding a right pump for the tank, knowing how to connect it, etc, is all tough so I would really appreciate any help possible. Same goes for filtration. I am getting mixed reviews from what I have seen online.

In the future, for reference, I would like to just have some nice corals , maybe one or two fish like a jawfish that would just relax with me in my room haha. Not a heavy bio load

Here is a photo of the tank from earlier. I removed the rocks and sand, I was "in the zone" and wanted to see some aquascape ideas lol.

Thank you in advance for the help

Congrats on the new BioCube! I might be wrong, but I think @kevgib67 rocks a BioCube 32 (sorry in advance if I'm mistaken!)

My eyes may be deceiving me, but if I squint really closely, I believe you have a Kessil A160we light, which is not something to disregard. It's not the best, and maybe a bit small for a 32 gallon with anything but the easiest corals, but adding a second would be a solid choice, in my opinion. There's definitely other lighting choices from budget to high end if you don't care for what you have now.

If you're just getting started, I'd suggest this guide:

And this videos series I personally think is a good watch:

I hope this helps and please let us know if you have further questions!

I love bio cubes, my first tank was a 32g.

Throw in a heater and a power head. Make sure salinity is at 35ppm or 1.026sg and throw in a bottle of Fritz turbo start 900 to get the cycle rolling. It doesn’t take much more than that to get your cycle started. That gives you time to add more and tweak it as you go.

Happy reefing!

Welcome glad you are here! As @Fish Fan mentioned I’ve had a Biocube 32 set up for over four years. Feel free to hit me up with any questions and or click on my tank thread and it should answer many of your questions.

Yes it's the kessil, and yes I know it isn't enough I have an AI pro as well I just haven't set it up yet because I wanted priority to be figuring out the plumbing and such. Saving the best for last haha. But yeah lights will be fine 👍

Thanks! I'll definitely do that, but how about for filtration and an overflow? I don't have a pump in the back chambers that takes the new water to the display. I can post a photo if you guys would like, it's just the bare tank with nothing but chambers in the back. That's why I'm a bit lost, I don't know what pump to get, and how to even connect it to the overflow

Thank you!
I did have a quick question if that's fine, I was wondering what you use for your pump? Is it the one the bio cube came with? Because I don't know what to get for mine, it doesn't have one. I found some nice options online but Im not 100% sure they are compatible. Tubing and all that too. Thanks

I just use the stock pump and have a spare just in case. Any questions anytime.

Thank you for your help, just purchased it. I will do some of my own research for filtration and stuff and will update the thread with what I will buy for equipment when I am finished

I based my filtration mostly on the video above and it has worked well.
