will any rodi system work, say from Home Depot/ lowes or are the ones sold by aquarium web sites different?

They only carry RO units. They don’t have clear canisters and there’s no DI resin. BRS is going to be a better deal (or Amazon potentially). If you want to browse Amazon search for RO DI. The clear canisters allow you to see when your media is used up if you get color changing media. They also let you choose the media you wish to buy. You’re not stuck with ridiculously expensive proprietary media.
