Rock from tank with ich

I picked up a system that I know had ich. It’s been fallow for at least 6 weeks to my knowledge. As I’ve had it for that long, I’d imagine it’s actually longer since his last fish actually died but I didn’t asked him when that was. When I took the tank I trashed the sand, and kept the rock alive. It is now set back up, would you wait for the 76 day mark? Or do you think I’m probably good?

Do you have another 30-day's worth of tank set-up/projects you can bring to competition in the meantime, and then add your first fish? That would be my personal 'non-scientific comfort level' route, if it were my tank, just for peace of mind.

Getting close to completion. I did start setting up my QT tank today though. I think I’m with you, will probably just put them in QT until I’m positive.

I would just the full verified 76 days. You are almost there!

I once had to go fallow 3x in the same tank, probably by cutting corners. It's a pain I would not wish on anyone. BORING, too!

Its no longer 76 days but rather 60 days and you should be good

60 days is fine for a fallow period. I will mention that the vast majority of "failed fallow periods" stem from new fish being added to the fallowed tank, where the fish were not properly quarantined - so it wasn't the fallowed tank that was the issue, it was the new fish bringing a fresh case of ich into the tank....

I agree with the 60 days - and though I totally understand the scientific reasons, and having read the original papers and the reasons that 76 days were suggested - I personally do it longer. Well I've only had to do it once - but it was such a disaster that I couldn't bear to add fish either way before 90 days. I agree with Jay and Vette. This was just my personal feeling
