Idk how else to explain the anemone. If you look in my build thread, you can see what it used to look like, versus now:
IMG_8745.jpeg

It’s all small and weird looking. Any ideas on what’s wrong? For reference, I have two other BTAs that are perfectly fine and then seven baby BTAs in a quarantine box in the same tank that are also fine for the most part (they’re new anyway, the issue with this anemone has been a thing for like a month now). Is it the placement? It went out of its way to crawl up there, I definitely did not want it there. I can’t fathom it being a parameter issue because as I said, the other anemones are perfectly fine (and my acros are happy if that is any indication at the tank’s stability, lol).

Any help is appreciated! I’m very fond of this anemone and I’d really like to be able to help it if I can.

I want to say bacterial infection if what you are saying is true with good parameters. I think a round of CIPRO is in order imo

How long has it been like this? Did you recently feed it? Mine acts weird off and on. Especially right before it splits. I'd investigate more before dumping in chemicals. What are your parameters? Just stating they are fine doesn't give much insight to finding the solution.

I would probly get ridiculed , but I dosed CIPRO into my main display. It’s not chemicals , it’s an anti biotic. I had like 3-4 anemone showing the signs like OP while the others were just fine. Broadcast dosing CIPRO saved the nems and all my sps / corals were unaffected.

Why would anyone ridicule you? If you positively identified a bacterial infection of some sort, then you did the right thing.

Ciprofloxacin is indeed a chemical, and listed as "Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects" here.
I won't go so far as to say you shouldn't use it, but I would certainly recommend using it only in a hospital/QT setup, and certainly not on a routine basis.

I wouldn't ridicule him personally, but I can promise that a bacterial infection was not positively identified. Most doctors don't even positively identify a bacterial infection before prescribing antibiotics. It most often just a guess.

huh learn something new , I guess that makes even things like blood a chemical substance interesting!

Well I was dosing CIPRO on a “whim” into my main display, I am not a doctor but noticed patterns with my anemones behavior. Bacterial infections are hard to determine in anemones it’s mostly guesswork. I was hoping the rest of the tank wouldn’t be mad but here is the tank I dosed in: I used one 500mg tablet crushed up in water, turned off pumps and used pipette to blow onto anemones , 10 mins later I turned pumps back on and took out carbon for a day

I feel torn recommending the CIPRO cuz each tank is so different but I believe it did help save

I wouldn’t feel torn. One of the reasons I would not use it in a display is that it’s indiscriminate. It’ll kill both wanted and unwanted bacteria which could obviously lead to other problems.

…Returning to mention doing the treatment in a separate quarantine tank was always the intention when I said I’d try it. I’ve dealt with aquariums for over 10 years, I’ve definitely figured out by now not to put antibacterial medicines in any kind of display tank 😵‍💫

Nice.

And I would have asked how long it has been like this... patience is usually key, especially with everything else looking good.

I just saw my frogspawn with two shrunken heads that looked dang near dead - Was normal 2 hours later.

In my original post I say it’s been like this for like a month (though it honestly might be longer). I’ve been watching it for a long time and hoping it would get better on its own and it clearly isn’t

Sorry I missed that.

My RBTA split, both looked great for a month, then one decided to get smaller and smaller and smaller, and finally just disappeared. The other one is still alive and looks great.

I know nems do nem things and move on their own, most people believing that its to find a better home.... In your case I might be inclined to force it to move back. So somehow you'd have to removing it from where it is at, and then probably turn off flow, put it where you want it, and put a cage over it for an hour or so, nad hope it attaches its foot there, and then stays - And then improves since it looked better there in the first place.
