Hello,
I’ve been using a refractor to test my salinity but lately have had issues with the results and would like to get opinions on the best one to now buy. I have a 47 gallon tank.
Thank you!

Refractometer works perfectly fine. I find it very accurate and simple to use. You can get a digital one like Milwaukee’s but they get out of calibration often.

I use the Aquatic Refractometer by Imagitarium. I calibrate it using RODI water. My last reading was 1.021 and the reading from my local aquarium store (OSA) read 1.027. I did not make any changes. My fish and corals have been fine. But now not sure if I can be secure with my readings. Should I replace the refractometer? Thank you!

Try to calibrate with rodi. Move the ring until it reads 1.000 specific gravity.
Or get/make a calibration solution around 1.025 sg.
Some of us use these, same idea, little better quality.

I suggest calibrating the refractometer closer to the range you are measuring. Calibration solutions like this will help.

Thank you! The directions that came with this one never mentioned anything except to calibrate to zero with distilled water. I wouldn’t have known I had a problem until my sample was tested at the store. Learning every day!
